The new coyote rifle will be done sometime early summer. I’d like to get a suppressor for it, any suggestions?

Little sneak peak into the rifle, big horn action, manners stock, jewel trigger, shillen barrel, chambered in 22-250 still deciding on twist rate

I had high hopes that the red tape BS with suppressors would finally be dumped, but all that got put on the back burner. Will be interested to see what you do, please report back.

What’s the debate about twist rate?

If all titanium is within your budget, go that route. Lighter for the size and longevity. Also, make dang sure it’s relatively easy to clean. A lot of people don’t realize how dirty they get, and how fast.

    Been pleased with these guys

As for twist rate, pick your bullet, and let the barrel maker recommend the twist. That’s what they get paid the $$$$ for

Can’t decide Randy, 1-8 is what we’re leaning towards. I’ve been looking at the varmintor 4.0.

I’m not a barrel guy, so I need to refer to those that know a lot more than me. My custom is a 10. I’m spitting 55gr bullets. One of my Howa is a 12, and spits 50gr barnes. Buddy shoots a custom that is a 8 or 9 twist and he’s shooting I think 80gr matchking. I haven’t worked with the lightest bullets in the 250 group.

This ^^^. I’d make them pick the twist and then there’s no excuses for it not being a shooter. Personally, I wouldn’t want to make the call on a custom because then there’s the “who’s to blame” if it does not perform as expected.

Hearing a sizzling 50 grain V-Max whopping into solid varmint meat is the best sound in the shooting world. I haven’t really found any reason to go up or down from the 50-55 range in the 250.

If your looking for it to be a long range coyote gun, as opposed to a rat gun, consider bullets with c9ntrolled expansion Like the Barnes 50gr or equivalent. As long as there has been the 250, there has been the debate on the ultimate bullet for it. For me, nosler HPs, and vmax blow some huge on coyote. Solid copper seems to pass through without major damage. If your in a state that allows a 250 for big game (deer, hogs,..), that 77 to 80gr range is dang good!

I’d like to be able to stretch the barrel at the range and hunt as well. We are planning on using savage small shank pre fit barrels. Will be able to swap out the barrel and bolt face and change the caliber of the gun.

Well decisions been made. 1-8 twist and I just filled out the paper work for a varmintor 4.0 suppressor. Anyone looking to purchase a suppressor I highly recommend dealing with Dakota silencer. The whole process took about an hour.

I went with the Dead Air Sandman-S. I like it because it has an end piece that can be changed to use with 30 cals and one for .224. That way, I can use it on my AR, and when I get my 6.5CM bench rifle built, I can swap the end and use it on that. Then, if I’m feeling saucy and want to get an AR10 in 308 or a 300BLK, I can use it on that too. Very functional, works great! Wanted one that would work on a multitude of rifles so I didn’t have to pay $200 dollars for a tax stamp on each one. Good luck! Oh, and here’s a link to the suppressor I got if you want to review it. It took me 7 months for my ATF paperwork to go through.

**Edit- Nevermind, congrats on the purchase!

Is there any chance of the Hearing Protection Act making any forward progress, has anyone heard?

I had hopes that progress could be made and the bill could pass, but now it looks like it has gone to the bottom of the heap. This bill would have eliminated the tax stamp and made suppressors require the same background checks as every other firearm.

Hopefully, this bill will come back in 2018.

It’s been quite unfortunate the frequent sequence of events in Washington and how they play out. What should have been a no brainier back Jan 9th – 2017 has turned to crickets. It was read twice and turned over to the Committee of finance for review because of taxation impacts. Too many other things to fight about and nothing gets done. Politics at its finest.

If this ever passes for silencers I probably not have a rifle with out one, and not only that I think the price of silencers would drop tremendously.

Tax stamp wait times are down around 5 months, and the latest budget proposal has money to bring on additional examiners. Good times for NFA stuff despite what the media may have you thinking.
