When the Pinks are in that can be a lot of fun. Most of the rivers above Duluth are inside state parks, so access is no problem. The Baptism, the Cross, the Cascade, etc. all have good runs.

I’ve also wanted to explore some north shore fall fishing but have yet to do it. For the pinks, a lot of the youtubes are filmed around the time the leaves start to change colors. Will hopefully do some kayak trolling this fall.

The Wisconsin waters from Ashland to Bayfield off the river mouths such as Fish Creek, The Souix, the Onion all have a good run of coho and steelhead. Starts in mid September thru October. Waders and a few spoons is all you need. After a good rain is usually the key to get fish to the river mouths. You can get a long ways out with waders.

Love trying new spots, and I’ve been to the north shore a gazillion times so I’m very interested. I’m a bit Boujee with my pop up tho and most camps on the river seem to be tent only, how close to the mouth does one want to fish come that time period? Can ya fish more inland and still have decent chance catching some fish?

Don’t mind traveling, hiking or driving from a campground to find spots.

You can head up the north shore and catch tiny nasty pinks that taste like…well…nasty pink. You may have a shot at a steelie if you catch a good rain.

Or you could head to the brule and have a shot at king, coho, stealhead and browns of all sizes. It’s spring fed so rain isn’t as big of a factor. The rivers critter mentioned aren’t too far from the brule and would be a good back up plan.

    This.

Water temps in the fall are warm sending the fish deep. More precisely, deeper than what can be reached from shore. Tom Sawvell has told me you can catch some big lakers from the two harbors breakwall in the fall, but it’s all gonna depend on water temps and a bit of luck. Best is right before the lake trout season closes as they are starting to move in for the spawn.

Otherwise, the south shore is probably the place to be.

Booked a spot late September on the brule.

Great tips, very much looking forward to some fall wader fishing.

Would anyone recommend going towards the lake more for quality fish? Lots of dinks today, nothing over 8-9″. Stayed more inland.

I’ve heard that the fishing has been spotty in the Two Harbors area from the breakwater, but then I haven’t heard a ton of positive reports from the shore this year at all.

I’m leaving Monday for a seven-day excursion to Two Harbors and plan on hitting the breakwater.

NMG, if you’re catching the pinks in a stream they’re probably not much good to eat. Once they leave the lake they go to mush in a hurry. Your Brule trip should have kings, cohos and browns running.

Lots of shorts for me today again. Locals said it’s a week or two out still but w the low water may not have the greatest of runs.

Beautiful river and area, on the list for future trips.

    Appreciate the info again toast

Just went to the north shore to try out shore casting for salmon for the first time. I had low expectations since I have not seen anything about the run starting, but it is the weekend I have available this month.

Tried Two Harbors break wall for a while. Spoons, spinners, j13… no bites. French River was too windy to cast from shore even with a heavy kastmaster. Drove further south down the shore and fished from McQuade for several hours. Not even a nibble.

Even though it was an exercise in futility, I still learned a bit about shore casting on a big body of water. Also I got to do some retail therapy buying new spoons and spinners at Marine General.

Dang . I was hoping for a positive report . I wanted to try this sometime . Is the bite supposed to be better later?

I know of exactly one fish, a 25″ Laker, taken off the breakwater in Two Harbors in the last week. No Salmon. No Herring. Boats were struggling to find fish.

I asked the guy at Marine General, and he said that the water has just been really warm this year. Everything is delayed. Also, they haven’t been getting much rain. I am not the expert at predicting when the salmon run, but I get the sense that it is behind schedule this year.

Anybody with more experience have any idea?
