Are sunflowers a crop deer like? Two fields have them on relatives property I hunt. As of a couple weeks ago they were not harvested. I believe this is the first year they have planted them, normally put them on neighboring fields. As noted two fields are sunflowers, one alfalfa and a bean field. Anyone have experience hunting over them or use them as a reliable food source. Have not done any scouting around them.

Deer love the black oil sunflowers. People feeding birds with those sunflower seeds are always fighting with deer knocking down feeders to get the seed. I can’t image a field full of sunflowers not being prime time for deer.

The deer love sunflowers in the Dakotas.
When they are standing they will use them to bed in. Once they are harvested I have seen a lot of deer still utilizing them for bedding but they are easier to see feeding out there on the waste grain left behind.
They grow a lot of sunflowers out there and have for years.
Not sure how the deer will utilize them in your hunting area if they are a new food source or bedding area.
