summer rod storage

I bring all my summer rods in the house in the winter. I have a circle rack to store my shorter rods on, but my longer rods I just
lean them up in the corner. I would like to store them up on the ceiling to get them out of the way. Just wondering what the best way of doing this would be. Is there premade hangers out there or is there something better to use? what is everyone else using? any pics would be great to.

maybe a couple pieces of 1x material and use a jig saw and cut some type “J” hook in them then screw another 1x to it flat and the screw that to the ceiling.

I hang about half my rods up on the garage ceiling. 2×2•s with J hooks evenly spaced. I try to space out the second row far enough so the rod lays pretty flat. Try to keep the tips from sagging down. I’m not to worried about my glass trolling rods. More concerned about the carbon blanks

If you have a 2″ holesaw, 1″ paddle bit and a jigsaw you can build a pair of these out of 1×4’s. A router is nice for cleaning up the edges, but not entirely necessary.

It looks nice, can be stained or painted, and doesn’t need $40 work of hanging hooks.

They work on the ceiling or on a wall for horizontal storage.

I have a similar setup to Randy’s in my garage, except I use vinyl coated cup hooks for the blanks (cheaper), and the butts rest on a section of metal conduit covered in foam pipe insulation. I recommend running a “safety rope” across, too. An accidental bump can knock a rod to the floor–been there. doah

I also fashioned a cheap tool to help get them down.

I store mine on a vertical stand in the basement. My garage isn’t temperature-controlled (its insulated, not heated) and I have room in an unfinished portion of the basement. Something like this.

Neither is mine. I guess I’m not concerned if my rods and reels are in winter temps. Having done “in for the winter” thing a few times, I’m more concerned about snapping tips in doors. rotflol

Oh I think we’ve all damaged a rod n reel going in and out of a door before.

Mike Baker makes rod holders out of plastic lattice. I tried it and it works great!
