Got 30 bass and 2 were 21 inchers nice hunks mostly 2-3 pounders.

That’s an incredible outing Mrpike1973. I’m slightly jealous. You should take a photo of one of those 21 inch hawgs and show us bassheads since we all love seeing them.

Sounds like a great outing mrpike. Good #’s and a few Tank fish as well. It doesn’t get any better than that. It sounds like you are really starting to get them dialed in. I hope our big fish lake is good to us in the morning. We have gave it a full Week Rest. I had hoped that we would get some cooler water temps and a overcast day. It doesn’t look like we are going to get either of those.

Well I finally got into some decent fish this morning. My Father and I caught 19 bass and 1 pike north of the metro. We caught most of them skipping plastics around docks but the first 90 minutes we also caught some on a more aggressive pattern in the weeds…buzzbaits. We had clouds hang on from that overnight storm until about 8:30am. Once the sun started coming out, that bite died and we started targeting shade around docks. I caught my biggest largemouth of the season so far too, a 19 incher.

Nice fish Gim, glad to hear the Buzzbait is working. That’s not been a very productive lure for me this year… about time to give it another shot waytogo

Its been a frustrating past 2 months for me with the hot sunny dry conditions all the time and the ultra finesse tactics required. I have been catching fish every time I go, but lacking both quantity and especially quality. This morning was a noticeable improvement and I am fully convinced that the cloudy conditions played a role in that buzz bait bite.

Nice fish G-I would trade 3 jigworm fish for a surface strike any day. Speaking of docks got some nice crappies fishing docks a few days ago.

Nice fish! I did not fish Friday not worth it and hard on the fish. On Saturday I tried a new lake looking at the map a very deep lake. Assumed it would be a deep weed edge bite well everything looks good on Lake finder sometimes but until you get there whistling oh well what I found was a lake that should have a 4 foot clarity was turbid about a 2 foot clarity no defined weed edge shallow shoreline sloping into sand bottom. I started looking for weed edges to fish nothing descent at all then my brain finally kicked in. The fish have to be tucked up in the scum weeds on the shoreline in less than 3 FOW I started casting spinnerbaits but got hung up a little to much then used a swimming bass jig with a craw trailer got 3 bass that were 19 inches and 5 more that were no slouches. For some reason the pike were on fire but were short strikers got 3 one was 29 inches. I’m sure getting a bit better at accessing a lake and getting a game plan going. Someone mentioned on here they would like to see pictures more I understand and as fisherman I hope you will believe and trust me on what I say I catch however I’m almost always alone trying to keep a fish out in 90 degree weather while fumbling for a phone to get a glamour shot is not my deal I want this fish in ASAP to live another day not float belly up so I can take pics. Now with this being said there is nothing wrong with taking pictures and I don’t condemn any one who does if you have a partner it works way better than being alone. Anyway I plan to hit this lake a little more. Talked with one local and was told yep it’s a close to shore early morning late afternoon bite.

I want to thanks everyone on here even though we have not met I feel as a close knit group. The learning and techniques I have learned from you guys has really helped me become a better angler We still have days that get us but by far I have improved a lot thanks everyone!

That was me. I understand the difficulty trying to do it alone and fumbling around when its this hot out. I don’t do selfies and my dog doesn’t have thumbs so I would encounter the same problem if I was fishing solo.

Got out for a few hours after work yesterday. We decided to try a totally new lake that had some decent looking data on the DNR site. I dint think there was a lake within 60 miles of here that my buddy has never fished but we found one. On paper it looked like it should have some nice sized fish in it this year. As always I hoped the lake would have a decent defined weedline. Being a shallow lake with a maximum depth of 24 ft I had doubts that it would. My doubts were correct and no weedline whatsoever. What it did have was a ton of great looking pads almost all the way around it and a few scattered weeds in about 8 ft of water. Being that neither myself or my fishing partner are much for slop fishing we spent our time fishing the few weed clumps we could locate. Did not catch a ton of bass. Probably on 12-14 fish but they were really healthy fish for their size. I managed to get back on the big fish board with 2 really nice fish. One was 20” and weighed 5.44 and the other was 19.25 and weighed just slightly less at 5.28. Both were incredibly healthy fish. I think we will make it back out to this lake a few more times and try to figure it out better. I think it’s going to be a great fall lake when we start to throw spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. The better fish were caught on a Neko Rig. Also caught fish on the Texas rig. I thought it was going to be a good Jig bite but did not have 1 bite on the jig. Did manager a few pictures ( taken really quick and got the fish back in right away ) picture taking is much easier and quick when you have a partner and we always have the camera phone out and ready. I do understand those of you who don’t take pictures when alone, I would have no idea of a good way to even do that unless you had a camera mounted somehow. Side note the smoke in our area was crazy yesterday. Thankfully it was slightly less bad by the time we got out fishing. Good luck to all if you get out this weekend. Remember, Big hooksets and tight lines !!!

I was out this morning for about 4.5 hours and caught 20 bass and 4 pike with a friend. The biggest I caught was an 18.5 incher. I caught all of my fish on fast moving lures with vibration, so primarily a spinnerbait or a chatterbait burned fast. All of the fish pretty much came out of a stretch of about 200 yards so I just kept circling and doing it again. I tried slowing down with plastics but they wouldn’t bite that. It had to be a moving lure. Water temp was 77 degrees.

Thump, I have a couple lakes that are shallow – 20 fow at deepest. These are excellent lakes in the Fall when fish start to move deeper. There aren’t those deep holes they go get lost in and you can’t find/reach. All can be found either on the graph or around structure and can be caught waytogo

What I like about Thumps report is he pulled out AWESOME fish from probably a dark lake with sketchy weeds w/o doing docks or going into the slop, AND he used a finesse tactic. Cool.

Fished Thunder Lake between Outing and Remer in our multi-species league last night. That is one beautiful lake. Drop-shooting the weed line by reeds close to deep water with some Berkeley Iaconelli pink worm that floats was pretty good. Docks were dead. Not one pike caught by eleven boats. Very refreshing to find a lake not filled with snot rockets. Good luck this weekend.

Had another incredible morning on the water. I think the slightly cooler water (75 deg.) slight wind, and haze sky’s was the key. Best 6 went 26.21. With the small fish being 3.70. I lost a MONSTER fish when it jumped. I think it may have possibly been my biggest fish of the year. I think that fish would have put us over 28 lbs. this has been an incredible year for big fish. It’s sure fun when you have days like these. Just makes you want to get right back out there as soon as possible. Hope all of you got out today and also had a great day.

Well quite a weekend Friday my Asthma kicked me with the smoke so I stayed home. Saturday got 8 bass 3 were 19 inchers nice fish on bass jigs with craws 3 FOW in the slop. Today was refreshing to be out but could not get out till 11 am till 3 pm took my mom and dad they got a few not many tried to get them to fish neds but they tend to want to do it there way smirk Darn Kids. I got 18 bass mostly 2-3 pounders ned rig head with Berkley chigger craws they really wanted a compact but big package, senko’s untouched. Scattered weeds 8-12 FOW did not get any on a strong weed edge they were really scattered about. The bonus a 19 inch smallie wow what a fight attempted to get my mom to take a pic well I have half a fish so no pic frown

I’m finally getting back out tomorrow morning. Probably just hit white bear again as I found a nice crankbait bite on mid depth weeds on a few different points. DT10 was doing work. Probably see if that’s still rocking tomorrow with the cooler weather. Awesome seeing everybody crushing last week!

I caught this weird looking bass last night. Came out of 3 ft of water on a power worm. Was pretty surprised to see him. I thought I had a clump of weeds so I was Jerking the rod all the way in trying to get the weeds off lol.
Other then that my last few outings have been good not great, but ok to good. More big fish but not numbers. Can not seem to find a school. Every spot we fish we get 1, 2, maybe 3 and then it goes dead. But multiple bass in the 19 to 20 inch range with a few lost hogs as well. Jig bite last night was good any where from shallow bull rush to 12 ft weed lines to flipping in shallow pads.

Telltale sign of a walleye on the other end, or a wet sock… lol

HEY!, That’s just about enough of that kind of talk. rotflol

Actually, Roosie has their fishing contest this weekend I would like to catch one of those Bass fish. What do I do? Go up to someone’s dock and through a plastic worm thing down there?

No Seriously, where are they hiding out?

The dock bite hasn’t been to great for me lately. But they are there. Most fish we have found have been in 8 to 12 ft of water. Out side weed line. As long as the weeds are green. Last night we found alot of the weeds were dying and turning black. That is a bad place to fish. Find green weeds and find fish. Or big Lilly pad areas. Texas rigged creature baits or jigs with creature, or craw trailers has been key. Oh and the 7 inch power bait is always a fish catcher. Fish the bottom and slow down has been key for us. The problem with those power worms is you catch those wet sock fish every once and a while

The survey shows some good size SMB, but not a ton, which could be the survey methods used.

Now if I was looking for smallies I would find any form of rocks deep or shallow and work ned rigs over them, tube jigs, smaller senkos, and of course hair jigs. Some times fast is key and some times slow, like slow slow.
Top water baits can also be great at certain times of the day. Even over deep water

Same here. For whatever reason the Deeper weeds around here died off MUCH earlier this year than Normal. They were already gone by The 1st or 2nd week of July. This normally doesn’t happen mid to late Aug. I think it has to do with the lower water and the long period of high surface water temps. Once the deep weeds were gone the fish no longer were schooled up. Been more spread out than normal for this time of the year.

Yeah, fish are spreading out a little earlier this year… almost like late August. Been having a little luck on the flats already. Throwing 3/4 oz Dark Sleepers and 1/2 oz Uoze swimmers.
