Son of a…., that is going to throw a wrench in the works for when I trailer the boat to other lakes
Thanks for the info Jon!!
Wow, that is a rather lengthy detour! Definitely will impact how much we visit relatives that are west of Garrison, but at least that doesn’t start until August.
Thanks for the information.
There is a short cut at wealthwood. Not shown on the map. cut the detour in half. Or very quickly take you to the lakes north of mille lacs.
As long as you don’t mind dirt roads it won’t be too bad too cut across the glory church/wealthwood road.
Those two detours will alternate which makes it much better.
Thanks for the heads up! That is a very good thing to know in advance!
Ouch… Right at the Wayside Park Access… I had hoped to use that this summer. The traffic is going to be a major pain on HWY 18 for a while. Thanks for the heads up!!! Jon…
Hey Will or Mike… Is there a dirt road shortcut to get to HWY 47 when the HWY 18 Bridge Closes?

The glory/wealthwood road is about the only option. Search for glory, mn on google maps and you’ll see the road.
Update on the project: Note the work on Hwy 47 was completed.
MnDOT postpones Hwy. 18 bridge project west of Malmo
Press Release
May 21, 2020
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is postponing the replacement of the Hwy. 18 box culvert bridge over Morman Creek near Malmo. The project was expected to begin in July 2020; a new construction date for this project has not yet been set.
“MnDOT works to be conscientious of taxpayer dollars, and due to the possibility of this project requiring more than what was budgeted, MnDOT is postponing the project at this time as we evaluate any additional cost,” said District 3 Assistant Engineer Jim Hallgren. MnDOT is working closely with its federal and state partners to develop a plan to move the project forward in the future.
The box culvert bridge is in good structural condition, and MnDOT will continue to monitor any embankment or sediment movement along the Morman Creek at this location.
MnDOT road work has been identified as a critical service in Gov. Tim Walz’s stay at home executive order. They are being as flexible as possible with schedules during this period of lower traffic volumes to keep projects moving forward and minimize the impact to motorists. Following guidance from state and federal health officials, and to prevent further spread of COVID-19, crews will maintain social distancing practices while working.
Thanks Jon, good to know. I use Hwy 18 on the north end of Mille Lacs a fair amount each year and so good to know it won’t be an issue, this summer anyway.
47 is detoured from Ogilvie to the 18 / 47 intersection south of Isle by Fiddlesticks / Isle south campground.
Any issues getting up to Nitti’s from Isle? Heading there on 6/20
No…no issues there, no protests other than some local punks pushed a porta-potty over at Johnson’s Portside the other night.
