I’ve definitely been enjoying more Moscow Mules this summer, very refreshing. You can pick up a set of copper mugs at Target. A Colorado Bulldog is a nice twist on an after dinner drink as well. On restaurant night out with the wife, if you find the right place, I’ve discovered a tantalizing little classic cocktail – the Sazerac. This is all besides normal beer intake of course.
Correction to a couple of earlier posts: Jack Daniels is not bourbon, it’s Tennessee whiskey. Remember – all bourbons are whiskey, but not all whiskeys are bourbon.

    Tanqueray is my go to!

Not me. I usually drink New Amsterdam in G&Ts, but if I feel like splurging a little, it’s Bombay or Beefeater. Or if I really want to splurge, Norseman Distillery in Minneapolis makes some nice gin.

We always had Tanqueray at the cabin but last year picked up some New Amsterdam and did some blind G&T taste tests. New Amersterdam won hands down. cheaper and tastes better IMHO.

Rum runners for MIL’s birthday party. I think it’s fitting considering its 92°F with a 78°F dewpoint.

dont know if this has been brought up or not as I am too lazy to reread this entire thread, but if you hate spending money on high end vodka, run the cheap stuff through a brita filter a couple of times,it will surprise you at how well it does!!

I recently went to a wedding and they had huckleberry vodka mixed with lemonade in a punch bowl. Not something I would have bought myself but it was surprisingly good and quite nice on a summer day.

I made this last Christmas and everyone I gave a jar to really enjoyed it. It has great flavor and doesn’t pack too big of a punch.

Hey Pug can you describe your rum runner recipe? Our version looks different. We use pineapple and orange juice. Very deadly. There’s been an ice fishing trip where my buddy and I did about 3 gallons after we added a bottle of this and a bottle of that, needless to say by the time people came back for their second cup, they were warmed up and smiles

I’d have to look it up. Supposedly that was the original, take it for what it is worth. I believe everything but the grenadine was mixed in the same amount. I ended up adding more pineapple and orange juice to dilute it.

That concoction has destroyed a friendship. Like I said, I diluted it because the first go was strong. I warned everyone at the party to be careful and that the drinks were very strong. Long story short, friend blacks out at kitchen table, pisses herself, yes, pissed herself. She’s in her late 40s. We got her to the couch where she puked. Fun night. devil

We hadn’t gotten an apology in 2 weeks. So Michelle texted her and cancelled the trip to Georgia we were supposed to take.

So our friend thinks we owe them an apology! She is blaming me for making he drinks strong! She even admitted that I told everyone that. She’s such an idiot that I think she thinks because I said that it actually vindicates her, like I did it on purpose or something?

By the way no one else at the party blacked out. A few were some what tipsy, but switched over to beer and were fine. You know, they exercised common sense.

    Ok, rant over LOL

Revived post but fitting for the weather….Mojitos are ok, but like said, done right, they are work. Lately I have been trying different Brandys… I really like Christian Bros VS with some diet coke and maybe a lime, though the lime is not needed. Korbel is all right, but I really am digging the CB VS right now. cool

Glad to see diet Sunkist lemonade come up!

About as low brow and unsophisticated as you can get but gin and diet Sunkist lemonade is one of my all time faves on a really hot day.

I still haven’t tried a dark and stormy, so I am glad this post was revisited.

This weekend we tried raspberry lemonade, vodka and club soda. It’s damn good on a hot day. To start it I add ice and then crush some raspberries in my hand and dump them on top before adding the raspberry lemonade, vodka and club soda. I also go light on the club soda, because I don’t think the lemonade has a strong taste to begin with and I want to dilute as little as possible.

My go to this summer has been a basic juice, preferably including mango and pineapple, vodka and club soda. This one I put more club soda in to dilute the fruit juice.

I need to by more rum. Rum goes better with fruit.

As for Mules, we still make them, but I generally only have one or 2. I find you have to drink them really fast, because the copper pulls all the cold from the ice cubes through conduction and they melt fast. But it is nice feeling the cold rim of the cup on your lips as you take a swig.

Tito’s online sells pure copper mugs for $18 a piece, which is a excellent price for a pure copper mule mug. You may even be able to find them in your liquor store like I did.

Gin & ginger ale, then gin tonic. Art, I’m going to have to try the Bourbon in the freezer.

I like the classic, hand-made Mojito. It’s worth noting that since this drink went trendy, it was completely monkeybuttized. Many people who say they have had one, have never actually had one, they’ve had the lime soda pop “Mojito Mix” version, which is actually the spawn of satan.

    Grouse

I’m sure someone has tried to market the trendy version as a “Mojitini”.

Sorry if these have been mentioned but my favorites:

    1) Strip and go naked: vodka, lemonade, and a splash of light beer. Mix it by the pitcher and use the beer to cut the sweetness.
    2) Aperol spritz: Aperol, club soda, and a slice of orange. A little bit sweet but my wife and I found them on a vacation to Italy and they will do some damage.
    3) Limoncello: a good nightcap. We are going to try and make some ourselves this summer.
    4) Busch Light.

I like gin and tonics, vodka tonics are a nice change of pace. Other then that, it’s light beer in a tall, cold 16oz can:)
