Summer Bwca

The snow already has me longing for the canoe days this summer, so while I’m reminiscing- I figure I’d post a late report.

After 9 straight years in the BWCA we finally got into some good fish.
Aug 4-9 Lakers were shallow (28-50′) next to deep water, and were coming up to bite on cranks in the top 15′.
As you can see (from inside the belly of a super tasty 21″er) they were feeding on the enormous amount of juvenile smallies scattered throughout the lake.

Trick was having the bait back at least 100′ from the canoe, and speed of 2.5- 3.5mph. At that speed the strikes were insane. Big Laker pictured took over 20 mins to land. Gave me a shower when she swam away too.

Bonus crazy mouth northern on the way out in 3 fow.

I say this every year, but best trip ever.

Is the pike picture on meads lake by chance?
