From hummingbirds web site,
Step one is to bend over,
Step 2 has no lube allowed

I called, their sales rep said the same thing. That being said I do run a Helix 7 for guests to use when they forgot their flasher or don’t have one. I absolutely hate it. Maybe Mega Live would be cool? IDK but the digital lag between when I jig and when it shows on my Hbird screen is horrendous. I consider it a toy for guests to play with when they’re bored. It’s a much better summer unit IMO. Maybe someone needs to show me what I’ve been doing wrong for 3-4 years of owning it, but it sure as hell doesn’t even come close to my Vex in terms of responsiveness.
My advice would be to look at the aftermarket. Lot’s of options out there. Summit, Arc Lab, Tacti-Grip to name a few. Pricing on HB’s accessories is insane IMO.
You guys need to watch the Maga Live in action for ice fishing on YouTube Tom Boley latest video. Pretty cool………..

I will keep happily not owning birds. And not being taken advantage of.

Ya, between his and Clayton Schick’s videos, I’m pretty impressed with what I’m seeing lately with the mega live. I wonder if they had some key updates come out that improved the image.
What about the Ice Helix 5? Are hummingbirds really that bad? Been thinking about buying one.

For real ? Ive converted a few friends from Vex to Helix 7 . And yes even FL 28s. Use it in chart mode – circle mode is trash Ill agree there, chart you can see so much more I think personally . Crank the chart speed up .
I feel like I am missing info when I look at a Vexilar nowadays. So much more to the story with the Helix.
I’ve intentionally tried to see a delay on multiple occasions with the Helix, and to me, if there is any delay it’s imperceptible.
Chart speed set to Ultra for all hard water fishing.
I used a Helix 5 last winter and thought it worked great.I still used my Vex also but wanted the Hbird for the gps and it was on the boat so why not.
I know it’s not quite as responsive as the vex but it’s not really noticeable.
If you think Hbird is the only one sticking it to you i got to call you on that one.

They make it the most notable for loyal customers. They don’t stick it to me because I own 0 from them. Both garmins and 3 lowrance units I bought used so they didn’t get me either. Lol. I’m just poking fun at the guys who pay 450 for a ice shuttle. That’s h bird calling their customers dummies

I’d like you to see my Helix 7. It looks like a video buffering, from the days of dial up internet. Forget target separation, there are no targets unless i crank the gain to 100%. Then it gets even more jumpy.
This is in flasher mode. Traditional sonar mode it’s still jumpy as hell but at least I can see my jig most of the time. I can count one on thou from the time I jig up to the time it happens on screen. It’s been back to Hbird, they said nothing is wrong with it. It does not do this on soft water and SI works great, and nobody wants to buy a used gen2 even if it’s marked down to $120, so this is the reason I still even own the thing. I’ll post a photo when I get out on the ice this week, maybe start my own thread on it
