Sufix 832 vs Fireline

When it comes to braid I have always used Fireline and have always liked it. For those of you that use 832 (or more specifically those that have used both) what do you like about the Sufix? I am re-spooling both open water reals as well as ice reals. I think I am going with 832 this time but wanted to hear some comments.

The Sufix Advanced seems like nice line. Spooled up 3 reels this year and like it alot.

I have always used 832 but recently have started to do more snap jigging. I feel for this application the 832 is too limp of a line and I was having a lot of issues with it getting wrapped around the eyes on the rod and knotting up. I switched over to ultra 8 carrier and find it is a much stiffer line and fits the application a lot better for me.

I have used both but have only used the suffix for 2 years and can’t say anything bad about it and I would buy again.

I have tried many braids and 832 remains my least favorite. It casts poorly compared to many others, but the biggest issue is knots while casting, and as someone else mentioned, it wraps around the end of the rod more than it should. Fire line is not high on my list either but it is superior to 832 in most aspects.

Been using 832 for along time on almost all rods. Various applications and weights. Better than anything I have used including power pro, fire line, spider wire.

If there are issues with casting and wrapping it’s likely the wrong application. Any light braid can do this. Too light of a jig for the rod, casting a jigging rod, etc.

A lot of personal preference with lines but 832 has always been the best bet for me.

Fireline is stronger(per diameter), smoother, quieter, casts farther and makes stronger line to leader knots. I use 6,8 and 10 for my spinning reels Typically casting lightweight jigs and smallmouth lures.
832 is the roughest noisiest braid I have ever used.

I guess I should say I only use suffix on my trolling rods not casting or spinning rods.

Funny how each has such different opinions on braid. To each their own!

I’ve always found Sufix 832, Powerpro Slick, Diawa J-Braid 8-strand (since replaced by —->), Daiwa J-Braid Grand far superior to Fireline.

However, to the Fireline users, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

FWIW, I use Sufix 832 10lb and Daiwa J-Braid 15lb 8-strand (same diameter) on the ice occasionally. I’ve been transitioning to copolymers for ice fishing the last few years because of line freeze-up. I fish half in and half out of the house.

Sufix 832 for me, fireline seem to dig into itself on my reels, powerpro loud and abrasive and dug into itself on my reels also and I seem to get more wind wraps around my tip with it. 8 strand fireline interests me, and I think I’ll give it a shot.

But every client that’s fished with me would say the exact opposite of what you just described…?

832 is by far the favorite of anybody that’s fished with me. 832 is a smoother and softer line. I don’t see how it could be louder?

Interesting how everyone is all over the place. Guess it is Ford/Chevy. I’m going to give 832 a try both open water and ice and see how it goes. I have always liked Fireline with not one complaint. Not sure why I am trying to fix something that aint broke.

832 for this guy. Will use powerpro when its not available. Tried fireline once and it was a bitch to tie knots with.

I use fireline for vertical jigging and pulling crawler harness etc. But don’t cast with it, so maybe 832 is superior there. No idea.

At least for vertical jigging, how does 832 do compared to true break strength for fireline? I usually use 6lb fireline crystal for vertical jigging for walleye in spring/fall and have been impressed overall. Seems darn tough and sensitive. But haven’t tried 832 for that application so just curious.

I have 832 on all of my braid setups. I’ve used Power Pro without issues also.
I haven’t used Fireline in a long time.
Question for you Fireline guys, have they changed the standard Fireline in recent years? I tried it a few years ago and was not impressed at all.

I use the 832 for vertical jigging with a fluro leader and it is awesome, can’t believe what I can feel with it.

I have used both and like both and still use both. I find that 832 seems to hold its “roundness” better for me while Fireline gets flat, either one works I think

I’ll throw a 3rd choice in here. I’ve had really good luck with Seaguar smackdowmn. So far I’ve only used it for summer open water – Have not tried it yet for ice fishing. I did have a little problem with the wind knots when I was using the lightest lb test – Went up one size and have not had a issue yet in 2 year. I’ve had the same line on a reel now for two full summer seasons. Its the reel I use the most in summer. I am going to reverse the line on the reel at the end of the season ( Soon ) and use it again for another 2 years I hope.

I have had a lot of trouble with 832 in terms of line wrap and had a post on that recently. I switched one reel to the ultra 8 and so far it has not given me any line wrap or wind knots but it is more prone to backlash on my casting reel. I’m curious to see if anything changes as the line breaks in from use. I’m pretty confident I can eliminate the backlash and can deal with that easier than wrap on my rod tip and wind knots.

Not a big fan of Fireline. Too much line fray and tends to hold water, color fades and cuts into the line on the reel easily. Also not a braid, it is a fused co-polymer.

832 is fine for a lot of applications. Great trolling line IMO. Holds up well.

If you like Fireline for casting jigs and lighter weight cranks, try Berkley Nanophil. Also woks pretty well in sub-freezing temps as it does not seem to hold much water. Helps keep line guides from freezing up. You can cast a 1/4 oz jig a country mile!

PowerPro for this guy, no complaints!

I do have 832 and Suffix Advanced spooled on a few rods and also like those. I just happened to purchase a large spool of PowerPro, so working through that.

I like the Suffix nano braid for my jigging rods, it seems to be worth the few extra dollars over the 832. That being said, 832 is my first choice for most other applications and I’ve had good luck with it.

I used & still use 832 for a lot of applications both soft and hard water. But any rod I might be casting with gets No 8 Carrier now. Really liking the performance from long casts with a light hook & slip bobber for clear water bluegills to casting husky jerks & swim baits below missouri river dams in the fast water for current seam walleyes.

i used fireline for years. didn’t like the line frey. I’ve used 832 on most of my jigging and pitching rods for 3 years now. it wraps around the eyes of my rods a bit more and there is the occasional wind knot. maybe moreso than fireline, but i like the 832 better mostly because of the lack of line fray.

I will check out ultra 8 though as I like to use braid while bobber fishing in timber for crappies but it wraps around the bobbers pretty crazy.

When using different braids, there are different performance merits to certain line diameter and strengths. If using small diameter line I would prefer Fireline Ultra 8. If using a large diameter line, I would prefer to use Sufix 832.

There is a performance area where a line needs enough suppleness to be spooled and cast and yet still maintain enough body to prevent knotting itself while twisted.

You get slightly different results with baitcasting performance too.

I don’t get that either. Sufix 832 is nearly silent.

I tried Fireline for trolling years ago and switched to Power Pro because the Fireline frayed. I’ve been trolling with Power pro now for over 10 years without any issues. I like 832 for jigging both in open water and ice fishing.
