So I’m thinking of switching all
My trolling rods over to the suffix advanced 832 leadcore but have read on many review people having issues with led poking through and the braid coating wearing off very. easy also seen in couple independent studies on dive depth that suffix performance lead core and 832 advanced lead core have the same dive depth is this true ??

All I use is suffix advanced 832 leadcore for walleye trolling on the st croix and I have nothing but good things to say about it!

The info on those screenshots is terribly misleading.

You won’t ever see 8′ a color at crank bait speeds. 4-7 depending on speed, buy usually 5-6 for most cranking.

Even with 832 it does not get 7 foot a color like people say then ?

It will, but at slow speeds like 1.8-1.9

    At 2.0-2.2 figure about 6′ a color. At 2.4-2.6 more like 5′.

Leadcore is very speed sensitive (including the 832).

You’re best off running it on a linecounter so you can replicate easier.

I haven’t had any problem with the durability of 832 in the last 2 years running it. I do think it dives a touch deeper just because its quite a bit thinner, maybe 7′ a color at most.

    Yes.

You can destroy any leadcore line by twisting it up like wire.

How many feet of line does it take to dive 1′ ?

    2.68′ @ 1.25 mph
    3.21′ @ 1.5 mph
    3.75′ @ 1.75 mph

    4.29′ @ 2 mph…aka 7′ dive each 30′(color)

    ….
    6.43′ @ 3 mph

    ….

    8.57′ @ 4 mph

    ….

    10.71′ @ 5 mph (75′ of line to dive 7′)

    It is lineal

The suffix advanced is definitely more “fragile” than the regular leadcore. I’ve got trolling rods spooled with both and if I am trolling areas with rock I’ll only use regular lead. If you get snagged up with the advanced lead you have to be very careful to not break any lead or twist the line. That said I really do like fishing the advanced stuff because it does dive noticably deeper and I can fit 10 colors on smaller reels.

I love the 12lb 832 for walleyes. Been using it since it first came out. I had one bad spool a few years ago, but other than that it’s great.

It’s nice because you don’t need as big of a reel, and you feel more fight out of the fish.

Don’t waste you time with a traditional Willis Knot though. It’s extremely hard to do with superline leadcore. Just use a 50lb SPRO to connect your leader to your lead core (strip some lead out for the knot to the swivel).

The swivel will fit through all of your guides and levelwind.

I like a 20-25′ leader to start, and re-tie a new one when it gets down to about 15′.

I use 15 pound Blue Label LEADER MATERIAL. It holds up great to the occasional pike and zebes.

If you use braid, mono, or flouro LINE as a leader, you will lose more cranks.

I tie a basic knot in the end of leadcore then tie my leader line over the leadcore with a uni knot.
    Smooth

I run a leader of line to a swivel 3′ from lure.
Generally I run braid to the swivel and flouro to the lure.

Braid protects the leadcore from line twists more so than the swivel does when you get a walleye helicopter’n to the boat.
