I had an absolute blast!!!! My son and I met up with 07lowchamp on Friday for a short excursion. There I buried the wheeler in a drift. Then the hitch snapped in half so the trailer came off. We were able to rig it up for awhile. Buried the wheeler again.

Saturday morning we met the group. Doug aka captainpaddlefoot took us out to the shacks.

My son and I fished out of Doug’s shack which was perfect. Roomy, comfortable, warm, and right on the fish!!!! My son and I caught 12, lost about 5, and released 3 smaller ones.

It was a great trip and can’t wait to do it again. Thanks Doug and Tom for all the help.

Mudshark, THANK YOU for arranging this GTG!!!!

I kept 1 whitefish and the ^^^pout^^^^. Released 2 small whitefish and kept the seagulls fed with gobies. Was pretty slow; there were fish but they just wouldn’t bite today.

It was nice to meet a few people. Unfortunately, we were pretty spread out and it was too cold to hole hop and mingle.

Great service by http://www.lateeyessportfishing.com/ Joe was very friendly.

Caught 11 total whites, kept 7 of the better ones between my dad and I. Joe and Tom were very nice, even let us use a few jigs and Joe’s TUCR Precision rod. Wow, that was sweet. Great trip overall!

Fishing is fishing and the fish don’t always cooperate, weather either.
i was hoping it would be a little warmer and not so breezy. Can’t believe those guys slept out in the hub shanty. That takes some kind of nuggets. Did you do it Saturday night too.
It was nice to put faces to names and postings. We had a prettying good size crew. Unfortunately we were a little spread out. Cold and wind made moving around a little difficult.
I think everyone had fish. There were fish around, sometimes there were a lot of fish. They were active early, before ten, after that they slowed pretty good. At times I would have 5,6,7 fish working my jig. It would take 10-15 minutes to get one to bite.
Bottom line was the fish weren’t real active but, enough were around to put fish on the ice. I had 16, all but 2 were caught on the set-up with a gobie painted tungsten jig with tigger-x in natural color and slider, I was tipping with wax worms. Most of those came on the tungsten jig.
It helped to know there were fish around and I use a Pancam. I couldn’t always see my jig but, I could see that fish were there and I just kept working them.
I hope everyone had a good time and if you want to make a return trip, just drop me a line and I will let you know what is going on. I will be out there as long as we have good ice.
It was a great way to spend my b-day, out on the water with freinds. If you catch something, it is a bonus.
    Take care, Doug

Sounds like the curse of the IDO GTG struck again. Beginning to think mother nature wants us to meet up in the parking lot, have a few, eat a lot, and not fish……Onalaska and Bago suffered that curse as well

Wow, what a great time we had! Our crew had a blast. Thanks Mudshark for putting this together. It was great catching up with you. The Habenero beefsticks were awesome, but man did I pay for ’em this morning.

Fishing was slow for us to start, but Tom and Joe came by and tuned us up on jigging techniques. They even let us borrow a couple baits which put all our fish on the ice. An extra thank you goes out to those guys–they went out of their way to get us on fish. Unfortunately, we didn’t take any pictures of fish, but my buddy got a hilarious video of my clumsy ass dropping a fish down the hole. I’ll see if I can’t figure out how to post it. Those buggers are slick.

We stayed at the Land Mark resort, which was suggested to us by Paul. It was 5 minutes from the launch and very affordable. Very nice, clean, and comfortable.

Now that I’ve had a taste of GB whitefish, this is definitely going to be an annual trip for me. In fact, I wish I had some more free time in the next few weeks to do it again. My only regret is that I wish I would have made this a multi-day fishing trip. I’m already looking forward to next year. Hopefully I can do a better job linking up with you local guys who know the bite out that way and teach me the finer details. Trip swap anyone?

How much longer will GB have ice? I know that’s tough to predict, but in general when does the ice go out?

    I have pictures dated 4/5/14.
I would think it will be about the same thus year.
Big issue last year was that there was so much slush we couldn’t get around after while.
Caught big Burbot in March last year.
I will be out till its gone.
Only weekend that I won’t be out is 3/14, tickets for Badgers hockey.

It was nice to meet a few of the guys and put names with faces. My son and I ended up with 8, 16″ to 22 1/2″. Just got them filleted and in the freezer about a hour ago. It took a while getting the Y bone out, but is worth it when we can just eat boneless fish. The smoked fish from Joe were excellent, I only tried the one with the red pepper type of rub so far. Tom and Joe sure helped with teaching the technique to get the fish on ice. Thanks to Tom for letting us use one of his go to baits, all eight were caught on it. Thanks to Joe for getting us off the ice after we got stuck with trailer in one of the drifts. We had a great time and definitely will be back.

Good times, sorry that we didn’t set up by you guys, on the way out on Friday just before the launch we met Joe coming off and asked directions. I thought we set up where he pointed, but obviously you guys were further out, my bad. Joe the Fisher came on after us and we had a significant camp and with the weather take down and setup again was a dreaded thought. At least we quaded over to say hi and tell lies. A great big thanks to mudshark for putting this together, and Joe along with his sidekick for helping us fine tune our technique. Who else besides me are going to buy a smoker???, that smoked fish was awesome! On the way off we brought the truck out to pull the fishhouse off the ice, but only ended up breaking the tow ski hitch ball clean off in a drift. We redistributed the weight to the rear of the trailer to lighten the tounge and hooked up the tracked grizzly and got off the ice no problem, that machine delivered every penny spent on it…Joe the Fisher knows a good welder, thanks Joe. All in all we spent close to 40 hours on the ice without coming off, like I said, the cold wind kept you hunkered down. Again, a shout out to all, let’s do it again next year.

We had a good time, even though the fish didn’t bite in our shack. Injoyed meeting everyone. Got to hand it to castle, but your nuts, toooooo cold for me for an overweekend like that. The bright side the trip makes the wife want a snowmoble for icefishing yay woot

Just wanted to echo a few of the same sentiments. Good group of people, the guys definitely put us on fish (some of which bit, some didn’t), and had a good time.

Here’s a pic of my biggest. Didn’t measure it, but I’m guessing 22”+

Had a great time also. We got a total of 15 fish for Saturday and Sunday morning between my 2 boys and me. Lost about 4-5 more on the way up. It was too bad it was so windy and cold that we couldn’t do lunch together and hang out more. I wish we would of set up in the right spot on Friday nite so we could of been closer together. It was just too cold to move. Great to meet the couple guys I did. Yes captainpaddlefoot the son and I did stay in the hub again Saturday nite but this time we doubled up the heating power…woke up in a sweat in the middle of the nite..LOL. and the smoked fish was just awesome!!!!! You will have to get me your secret recipe. Thanks to Clown for letting my younger boy stay in your awesome shack. Thanks to Jeff also for the hot sausage stick and all the hard work putting this event together! My next fishing adventure I’m gonna try to make it over to Big Green lake and try for some lakers…never tried it before but I think Winnabago Viking might be able to help me out with that…LOL. I will post some pics when my computer will cooperate with me.

Wish I’d been paying attention and known about the GTG. I was up there Thurs thru Sat. Did a morning trip Friday to Cave Point…Did’ja all go out from Stone Quarry? I stopped there on the way up to where I usually fish and saw it was a zoo Sat am early.

WV,was that a pic of YOU?
