Had a great time fishing with family last weekend. We let the young guys reel in most fish, so they had a blast. The only time the dads had to hop on the rods were when we hit triples:)!!!!! We caught all fish in 105-115 FOW and at every depth from 5 feet down to 110 feet down. This no doubt was due to warm water temps all the way through the water column. There were no temp breaks to bunch up the bait and fish. We actually went through some areas where it was 1-2 degrees warmer 100 feet down than it was on the surface! CRAZY! We had the water column covered pretty good, and caught fish on every rod in the boat at some time or another. We ran two riggers (one 80-110 feet down, and one 40-70 feet down) and both had chrome flashers/aqua flies. These turned out to be our big fish setups with the dipsies a close second. The Dipsies were run from 80-110 feet of line out and typically had a spin doctor flasher and proctologist fly. They didn’t take a lot of fish, but when they got hit, it was a nice one. We also ran 3 board rods per side with spoons. The port side had 3 copper setups with 90, 150, and 280 feet, and the starboard side had 3 color, 6 color, and 8 color lead rods. All of these board rods took some fish with many of them being Rainbows on orange pro king spoons. Moonshine spoons also did a fair amount of damage.
In terms of crazy events, we had a double of a rainbow on a 3 color lead with orange spoon and a rainbow on a 105 ft rigger with flasher fly. Apparently those two didn’t get along and wanted to be as far from each other as possible…..
Hot baits: Chrome flasher/aqua fly, white spin doctor/proctologist fly, orange pro king spoons, Moonshine spoons in RV crabface, raspberry carbon, bad toad, flounder pounder
If you can make a trip out, now seems to be a good time as all were catching fish.
