My point was that not everyone can just go buy a house for their kid while they’re in college. I paid room and board my freshman year…because I had to.

Absolutely – it’d be ridiculous to think everyone can buy their kid a house to live in during college. I was just saying it seems like a lot of folks on here attacked the guy because he is able to do so and they wanted to point out every negative and possible flaw in that approach.

I am in the same boat as you – paid my whole way thru college out of my own pocket, including room and board when I lived on campus. Doesn’t mean I am passing off any judgement for those that pay their kids way.

I attacked the guy because it makes no sense to me from a financial standpoint in that particular situation. There is something else going on here with that post.

I live outside of Bemidji. Bemidji tech is a good school. Please do an inventory check of houses up here to buy (as an investment property in the 150-250k range) and tell me what you find? I’m just saying the story makes no sense. And the amount of housing that has been bought up north as investment property has made it tough to find anything for new family’s up here to afford. Gutted/remolded and unaffordable.

Why buy a house for a 2 yr school were tuition is $5-6k per year? Why move all the way up north to Bemidji? If it’s all about financial reasons it doesn’t make sense. And there is no entitlement here?

And there are other schools that have a good electrician apprentice programs. It’s not like you have to buy a house and move all the way up to Bemidji cause that’s the only school you need the degree from.

And clearing 27k after 2 yrs?

The whole point of this thread was help paying for college it’s out of control. He clearly has the money to pay for tuition so there is another side angle to this whole deal. Like storing a boat and fish house. Be careful though cause Bemidji and Waite Park battle it out every year for the worst property crime rates in the entire state.

Poster wasn’t struggling to pay tuition for his kid. Best of luck to him but it’s fantasy world to buy a house for your kid for a 12k eduction. Maybe the side angle is his and he wants a house up north. Maybe his kid doesn’t want to work to make 6k per year as an adult.

So buying a house in Bemidji for a college investment right now is fantasy. Especially after 2 yrs. Maybe other college towns but not here.

Why delete your masterpiece on entitlement? That was awesome and thank you posting it if only for a brief moment.

Dude—I mean bro— I remember when fishing forums used to be nothing but a bunch of like-minded folks sharing info and discussing things. Lots of light-hearted jabbing and playing around, as well as good info and genuine questions. Now every damn thread turns into people fighting and going at each other’s throats. Ok not every one but a lot… Although I can’t deny the current climate the last couple years or so has everybody on edge and bickering. Whatever, continue on and do your thing. I’m guilty of it too once in a while. This is just an observation

I think Hey got outbid on the very house Jason bought for his kid. Bitter dude!

There’s therapy for that, leave the forums alone.

Good observation and I agree in hindsight I did go a little overboard on the guy. I should have just shut my mouth and never posted to begin with.

So who are you? The forum mom, forum shrink, or the forum thought police?

    Thought police?!

My telepathy has advanced lately, glad u noticed. Usually it’s me telling the chipotle dude to hook up more chicken in my burrito but hey, I’ll take an influence of a random butthurt dude on the interwebs.

So buying a house in Bemidji for a college investment right now is fantasy. Especially after 2 yrs. Maybe other college towns but not here.

maybe I missed it but I didn’t see that he was going to sell it after the 2 years in college was up. If that is the case, I would agree that buying a house for a 2 year period doesn’t make total sense in my mind but who am I to tell someone else how to spend their money. I was thinking that if he bought the house, he’d hang on to it for a period longer than his kid was in college.

What I think would be a great investment is if you buy your kid a commuter car during college so they don’t put too many miles on their main rig wink yay

So who are you? The forum shrink…

I’m actually the forum shrink, although I prefer “forum counselor” as the term “shrink” is both racist and extremely dated.

Now that we’ve got the introductions out of the way, how can I help you? I’m sensing a lot of need, so make yourself comfortable and let’s get started.

    Tell me about your mother.
