My point was that not everyone can just go buy a house for their kid while they’re in college. I paid room and board my freshman year…because I had to.Absolutely – it’d be ridiculous to think everyone can buy their kid a house to live in during college. I was just saying it seems like a lot of folks on here attacked the guy because he is able to do so and they wanted to point out every negative and possible flaw in that approach.
I am in the same boat as you – paid my whole way thru college out of my own pocket, including room and board when I lived on campus. Doesn’t mean I am passing off any judgement for those that pay their kids way.
I attacked the guy because it makes no sense to me from a financial standpoint in that particular situation. There is something else going on here with that post.
I live outside of Bemidji. Bemidji tech is a good school. Please do an inventory check of houses up here to buy (as an investment property in the 150-250k range) and tell me what you find? I’m just saying the story makes no sense. And the amount of housing that has been bought up north as investment property has made it tough to find anything for new family’s up here to afford. Gutted/remolded and unaffordable.
Why buy a house for a 2 yr school were tuition is $5-6k per year? Why move all the way up north to Bemidji? If it’s all about financial reasons it doesn’t make sense. And there is no entitlement here?
And there are other schools that have a good electrician apprentice programs. It’s not like you have to buy a house and move all the way up to Bemidji cause that’s the only school you need the degree from.
And clearing 27k after 2 yrs?
The whole point of this thread was help paying for college it’s out of control. He clearly has the money to pay for tuition so there is another side angle to this whole deal. Like storing a boat and fish house. Be careful though cause Bemidji and Waite Park battle it out every year for the worst property crime rates in the entire state.
Poster wasn’t struggling to pay tuition for his kid. Best of luck to him but it’s fantasy world to buy a house for your kid for a 12k eduction. Maybe the side angle is his and he wants a house up north. Maybe his kid doesn’t want to work to make 6k per year as an adult.
So buying a house in Bemidji for a college investment right now is fantasy. Especially after 2 yrs. Maybe other college towns but not here.
