Stuck Thermostat

I woke up this morning and it seemed a little warm in the house. I got ready and on my way out I looked at the thermostat and it said it was 80 degrees in the house and it’s set to 70. It’s one of the manual ones with the little slider thing. I shut the heat off with the on off switch and turned it back on and it seems fine now. I’m no expert on these kinds of things, do I need a new thermostat or could it be something else? Hate to have that happen when we aren’t home.

I would take the cover off and blow the dust out of it. If it does it again I’d replace it. They are cheap and easy to replace. Just don’t let the bare wires touch each other.

Kill the power before you do so.

Get a digital and never look back at the mechanical. They’re like $20. It’ll probably save you that much in a month with programming it.

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure it was the thermostat and not something else. I’ll pick one up after work. If I kill the power to the furnace, that should stop the power to the thermostat too correct?

I did a lux digital and it was real easy to swap from the old school dial.

That’s the one I ended up getting. It was like $20. Same one that’s in my fish house. I’ll have to get the temperature swing thing dialed in a little bit it works good
