Structure Scan from Lowrance

So I bought the unit a few years ago. Well the unit started acting up and then crapped out over the summer. I took it out and ran it down to the store I bought it from to have them send it in. To my disappointment Lowrance does not repair an older unit but was willing to upgrade to Gen 2 structure scan. Problem with that is I don’t have a Gen 2 locator so what is the point of paying $275 for a fixed “new” unit with 6o day warranty when all I want is my unit fixed for a reasonable price. Is that too much to ask Lowrance for a fix on the unit you were happy to sell me a few years ago for $500 but now it is considered out of date to fix. Or am I to believe it would cost $275 to fix what is probably a faulty power switch but you wont even bother looking at it. Sorry Lowrance I have spent a lot of money over the years but you lost me on this one.

….Just like problem cell phone’s too. Seems like regular business for electronic equipment; after 2 years, you’re done.
Hard to buy off used lists (ebay, Craigs, etc.), because people selling them seem to want a lot of $$$, but it’s a total gamble for the same reason. It’s the electronic retailers new world order – to keep you buying new/updated equipment – one way or another. Like I said some time ago, wait until they figure out a way to charge you a monthly fee to run these things (my prediction from over a year ago).
Wish I had a better answer myself. ….My 3 units are all 6 years old.

Well sad to here your dilemma, this is one of the reasons I switched to Hbird. They still repair many legacy units

BPike, talk to a supervisor at Lowrance.

But help me out with a couple questions.

You paid $500. for what a few years ago? The HDS Gen1 were close if not more the a grand and the Gen2 are half again as much.

Might want to check out getting the deal from Lowrance, selling it on Ebay then down grade to a bird and pocket the change. LOL!

I bought my unit in pieces, first the HDS7 then next year the structure scan. Thus the $500 price tag for SC.. I have it ripped out, I bought a new HB for the front of my boat. Next year I will buy a new HB for my console to replace my HDS7. I am not fighting this one any firther – they lost me sad to say…I just need to vent!

Fairly sure you can use the LSS-2 on your Gen1 HDS units. I know you can use the LSS-1 on the Gen2 HDS units…….thats what I have and it works fine.

Ya it sucks with all the boating electronics and their very poor repair options. I wish Apple would start making fishing units. At least they would have problem free units for quite a few years.

ehhh, color me sceptical on that one, there must be more to the story. I’ve used Lowrance products since the old paper graphs were popular and have never had a problem. They have always been the innovative leaders in marine electronics.

The gen2 structure scan will work with the gen1 hds or the gen2 hds with the buttons. The gen2 touch has the structure scan built into the unit and dosen’t have a separate module.
