My dad is reporting his Strikemaster Solo drill is continuing to spin despite the engine being back at idle. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, is there a fix?

I have the Strikemaster Lazer Mag and had a similar problem. I adjusted the idle screw back a few turns and that fixed the problem. Hope this helps.

He tells me he has idle turned down. As he was a logger for 30+ years I have no doubt that he has idle properly adjusted. Other thoughts?

does it spin freely when it’s not running?

I think that this helps the recoil. I went through three recoils last year. I think that’s the trade off spinning or recoils.

    Hey there SB..

    this is indeed not normal…
weather its at it’s lowest idle speed or not each person may have a different take on this..

I would try two things… Call Strikemaster and get some over the phone help (or if your close take it in) Or… Bring it to a certified authorized service center and have them take a quick look at it..

I had the same problem a few years ago with a lazer mag. It spun from day one. I heard it was a problem when they torqued down the clutch bolts to much, it might have broke the clutch spring?? I returned it to Scheels in Eau Claire and Strikemaster never did send it back. Got my money back but no auger. Sounds like what I went through, I hope he bought it from a good dealer…

If I was going to bet, I think it’s the clutch cup between the power head and the transmission. Dave is right a service center is going to be the best bet to resolve the problem. Should be any easy fix for them.

    Clutch issue.
A broken piece is causing the clutch shoe to make contact with the drum. Couple ways this can happen but that is the jist of the story.

Yes, that is the grease for the gear reduction.

Yes, if the grease is dried out, clean it up and add more grease. Remove the 4 bolts in the pic to get to the clutch where the spring is located.

The Springs are perfectly fine. I’m mean that’s a good thing but I’m dead in the water.

Not that this helps but mine was doing the same thing before I got an electric. So at least it’s something more people have ran into
