Hey guys quick question. For the purpose of this question assume we are drilling through 20 inches of ice. When i get about 3/4 of the way through my auger will randomly rev fairly high and then just shut off. I am able to start it right back up and start drilling again but on the next hole it will do the same thing. I have an 8″ Strikemaster solo 142. I would imagine it has to do with the idle screw adjustment. I tried to adjust it to get my auger to stop spinning while at idle. I have found that was a loosing battle and cannot get it to stop spinning. So whatever it spins I can deal with that later but I need to adjust to get it to stop idling high and shutting off. Do i need to tighten the idle adjustment or loosen it. I run the smokeless Strikemaster oil for a 40:1 mix with premium fuel. If you need further info please let me know and I will give the best answers I can.

Spinning may be a broken clutch spring.

The revving at random times then killing is most likely a fuel pick up issue. When the air to fuel ratio increases die to lack of fuel will cause an engine to run faster for a bit. Not all engines see such faster running speeds but when a drain my dirt bike carb while running the engine it really starts screaming, my moat motor does a bit and my snowmobile mot too much. But I would look into a loss of fuel somewhere, some how.

The solo’s have been notorious for the fuel lines falling off of fittings because the Mfgr. used the wrong fuel line and used fuel fittings with no barbs on them. I know this first hand as many others do to.

Clutch spring. I had the exact same thing last week- the bit spun and would kill randomly half way through the hole. Strikemaster was great and fixed it up right away.
