I just purchased a new strikemaster magnum 2hp this year. I used it 3 times already without issues. Now, I went to start it and it wont start. It starts when its on full choke, then when I switch it to run it dies. Also, the primer bulb wont fill with gas. I need help guys, I’m on a fishing trip up in Minocqua now and I need a working auger.

Look to make sure the fuel lines are connected in the back of the primer bulb.

Its got internal venting, there is a vent spot near the carb. I think its got something to do with the gas lines. Last time I was using it before it wouldn’t start it sounded like it wanted to die. I would be drilling a hole and it would slow down for a couple seconds then go back to normal.

The best fix is call Drock and order new lines it will cost yo 20 dollars and 5 min of year time. In the mean time just push the lines back on there serts. You will have to do this every time you drill a series of holes.

I had the same problem with mine, open the gas cap. Look in side to see if you see the air intake tube (mine was cut way to short at the rubber gromit). If you can’t see it you will need a new longer one from Drock, BTW those guys are amazing. cost me 12 shipped to Colorado. Or just open the gas cap when you start and run it, a PITA but it worked for me. Good luck

I agree try running it with the gas cap cracked open.

I had a buddy who bought a brand new 10″ magnum and the fuel lines were pointed in the other direction towards the fuel cap and could not get the auger to fire. I’m not familiar with strikemasters but knew right away something was off. I pushed the fuel line so it’s facing the bottom of the tank and boom it started right away. Make sure the fuel lines are facing the right direction for starters if anything.

I’m sure this will start a war, but here it goes. Are you running non ethanol gas and only using the recommend two cycle oil? When it comes to fuel line issues I have been told that alcohol in fuel and in some fuel stabilizers can severely affect the integrity of the rubber used in many small engines. I was a loyal sea foam user till I learned that there is alcohol in it and switched to an evinrude product that stabilizes fuel and has no alcohol. For me, during the running season for my auger I use pemium non ethanol gas and the branded two stroke oil made for my auger. On the oil bottle it states that there is a fuel stabilizer all ready in it. So far 3 years and no problems.

I have been using premium gas, no way it could do that much damage Ive only used it 3 times. I use good oil also. And Nick, I tried that with no luck.

One of the lines, the one pointed up towards the fuel cap, is a breather tube.
I’m surprised that thing would run if you pointed it down in the tank.

Yes, the longer one was pushed down. I figured it had to be the fuel pickup line because I didn’t see any other use for it.

So I always hear about running non ethanol gas when it comes to auger problems. As far as I know all gas stations with unleaded has ethanol in it. I’ve been running my augers with premium gas since new and use amsoil sabre for my 2 stroke and has never had any issues. Is there something about non ethanol that I am missing on.thanks

Premium Fuel or Non Ethanol? There is a difference there.

I have heard the 4 strokes can be flaky. I don’t like how 2 strokes pollute, but the oil/gas mix won’t gum up a carb and that is invaluable to me
