For those who have a lithium Strikemaster how warm do you have to keep the battery? What temperature day can you leave it strapped on the atv? Also why doesn’t Strikemaster have an insulated battery? Thanks

Keep it above 5 degrees. Mine quits just below zero, (I didn’t have an accurate thermometer). Not sure an insulated battery would help, you would need a heat source, Unless your traveling a long ways before you drill your first hole its not a problem. Then just put the battery in your pocket. I just put the battery in the portable after I drill. I got the extra battery deal and I keep the extra in a (gasp) Ion battery bag. stocked with hand warmers, only used the warmers once when it was -30. have never needed the extra battery, even on long weekends,
but I’m not really a run and gun guy.
The trick in the owners manual about running it with no load for awhile to warm the battery didn’t work for me, just gives the multiple beeps.
    I really like this auger!

I’ve seen the same as Jeff, right around 0 it’s not happy. I usually keep them in my pocket, or if I’m going on a before sunrise to after sunset trip I keep them in an old cooler that I modded to hold both batteries and some hand warmers since I’m already travelling fairly heavy those days.

If I’m not going to use my auger for the next hour or so, I’ll pull the battery off and keep it in the shack with me. If I’m hopping around, I just leave it on there. I do have a second battery for backup. I probably used my auger 30-40 days last year in temps ranging from below zero to 45 degrees. Love the auger- one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.

Gord Pyzer of In-Fisherman tested the Ion auger a couple of years ago in 50 below temp (he claimed). He said the battery was on the auger ALL DAY and no problem.

I love my ion but I’m not going to pretend that the battery doesn’t need to be a little warm to last any significant amount of time. If it’s above 20°f it’s fine but when it’s colder I’ll keep it somewhere atleast a little warm. Leave it out overnight at -20 and you aren’t gonna get much out of it

I kinda go over it in here but that is the best way I have found to store my 2 batteries even if I am staying overnight somewhere cold!
