Hey guys ! Long time listener first time caller ! I just ordered the 24 volt strikemaster auger . Any real world experience with them out there? I know they are new , just hoped maybe one of you had jumped in and tried one already. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to IDO. I do not own one but have seen it in action and seems to be a good option. I bought a 40V this year and love it, I wanted a 10 inch for use in a wheel house and also wanted a more juice to reopen holes. I’m sure you will be happy.

I just picked one up today myself…

Damn Fleet Farm and their 12% off storewide lol

Pretty impressed with the feel and weight of it.

I believe the batteries are rebranded GreenWorks brand (same goes for the 40V too I believe)

A larger 5amp hour spare can be had for $80. I may or may not get a spare after I use the auger a few times.

Usually I drill less than 25 holes a day, but there are days I do quite a few more. The size, weight and speed should fit the bill nicely!

I sold my Gen 1 Ion with a newer battery in an hour for $280. The new Strikemaster isn’t a bad upgrade for $100

I’ve been impressed with the 40V, but dang they are heavy. This thing is 10 pounds lighter than it, and even a few pounds lighter than my Ion.

The power head is extremely compact compared to both as well

Just a heads up in an attempt to save somebody some frustration and some money. The green works batteries are not compatible with StrikeMaster augers. They’re molded differently and they’re similar but not the same internally.

Thanks James, I read it on the internet and hoped it was fact like everything else is mrgreen

The extra 4amp hour 24V Strikemaster branded batteries aren’t too bad though, I see them listed for $99

How do you think the 24V stands up to it’s rated 50 holes in 16″ of ice?

Happy to help. Based off of an examination of a photo online they look similar but I’ve been told by people that get paid to know that they’re not compatible.

As for the hole question… Last year the prototype augers were right on the money for the number of holes claimed. I haven’t been anywhere yet where there’s been more than 7″ of ice, let alone 16″, for a test with the production units but based on seat of the pants best-guestimates with the ice we’ve had to work with so far I’d say there as good as the prototypes. I think you will be very, very happy with the 24V.

As far as pricing on a second battery is concerned unless you have an immediate need for a backup hold off until later in the winter when retailers get aggressive with pricing. I’d bet my bottom dollar reeds will have some type of promo on the 24V batteries that will save you some $$.

What I really enjoy about the 40V weight and balance is how it drills holes with minimal physical effort. Pick the spot to drill and the auger cuts really fast with minimal effort on the operators part, just hang on firmly, steer and watch it eat. No need to push or lean on it unless your blades get damaged.
