I’m considering buying the 8″ version of this drill but need an understanding of how many holes this could drill? I have a Dewalt 20v Max XR drill/driver with a 5amp battery. I know there are many variables in play here but for discussion sake say 15-20″ of ice with this setup. I usually dont ‘jump all over’ the lake but instead try to dial in a few key spots so I’m never drilling tons of holes.

I don’t have a number for you, and I’m not real familiar with that drill, but provided it has good torque I’d say “quite a few.”

I have a Milwaukee Fuel 18 volt and the 8″ Lite Flite and was impressed how many holes it will drill. My kit came with 3, 5AH batteries. I think I only burned through about 1.5 batteries a couple times last year while jumping around a flowage searching for crappies. Most of the time if I just drilled out a known spot to find schooling crappies I could easily do it on 1 battery. I don’t think I ever went through 2 full batteries in a day, and I’m really not shy about drilling holes.

Not a scientific answer, but the Lazer blades seem to be pretty efficient. I was also surprised how smooth and easy it was to control the drill with the 8″ bit. No binding or bucking at the bottom of the hole.

    Agree with Tucker.

    I got 60, 8″ holes in a 12″ of ice last year with a 5AH battery. I have the Dewalt 996.

I used an 8″ Laser hand auger and adjustable adapter (cost is about $100.)

I have the 6 inch lite flite as well used it all last year best auger there is hands down for me. Got the 8 also as I like to tip up for pike once in a while and a nice back up just in case.

I used the flite lite last year and I will not go back. I have the 6amp battery but I can tell you if you only are doing a few you will be more than fine. I have never kept track but it rips.
I’m a hole hopper and driller and I have always had enough battery. On all-day fishing, I will bring a second battery. I keep both of them warm and have been impressed.

I used your same setup last year, drilled over 125 8″ holes early season ice at around 25degrees, about 9-12″ of ice. I randomly checked on other days but it always seemed like i ballparked around a hundred, even when the ice got to 16″+. I wouldn’t change anything, I’m completely happy with that.

I have the Milwaukee 18v Fuel with the 6″ lite-flite bit.. I put a lot of holes in the ice on the Mississippi River.. 5amp battery and I can put 100+ holes a day thru 8-18″ of ice and still have juice left…

Like mentioned above… torque in your drill is key no doubt…
