K Drills are legit. You’ll notice a difference.
Yes, they were designed to be used on a Milwaukee brushless drill. But, why buy one if you already have a powerhead you can use (unless you have a couple hundred bucks really burning up your wallet). It’ll still cut ice better than your standard bit. If hauling 5-10 lbs in a sled is that hard on you, you probably have some health issues and it’s probably not the best idea to be out there popping holes alone with a brushless either.
Also, you’ll notice that K Drill will tell you that you can put them on Strikemaster powerheads, specifically.
The type of powerhead will make a difference when running any chipper blade, though. Some powerheads don’t have the RPMs. Eskimos are typically slow and don’t work well with chippers. But, I run a chipper on a solo powerhead (strikemaster), and it works perfectly.
Another thing, on the brushless drills I’ve heard of people having them disconnect from the chuck and go down the hole. The foam on them doesn’t keep the 8″ afloat, and the 6″ coukd go down the hole far enough to get caught under the ice. Good luck getting an 8″ auger blade back up an 8″ hole, if you somehow locate it. Kind of a joke that they even put it there and claim it will do something for you, if you ask me. Just what I’ve heard, never seen it myself. But, bolting it onto the powerhead kind of eliminates that possibility.
