Got my 8″ k-drill today with dual chipper blade and mounted it to my strikemaster 3hp solo powerhead. I had the 8″ lazer drill and it weighed 24.4 lbs, with the k-drill it comes in at 21.4 lbs. I will be test driving her out on Green Bay at our GTG.

Maybe a dumb question by why put the k-drill on a Strikemaster? They were designed for the Milwaukee Electric 18volt drills. Am I missing something???

I know what I’m missing…3 pounds, I’m also missing the temperamental lazer blades. I talked to the tech at vexilar and he runs his k~drill with his solo head when the ice gets over 14 inches as it is less prone to binding. This will be tested on Green Bay in just over a week, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

OK I guess 3 pounds off the weight is great but why not just use a drill and loose about 10-12 lbs?

It will be interesting to hear your results on Green Bay.

Slap it on a Tanaka and get after it.

I’m interested in how it works out also!
Might be a great setup for drilling out rental houses at the resort?
The lazer bit is a no go for re-opening holes. And the standard chipper auger works. The jiffy bit works the best for re-opening holes in a house I do believe……

It’s below zero outside and I hate fumbling with my nuts in the cold, so I bring my tool in where it’s warm and can enjoy myself while I work on it. grin

How much is the K Drill?

8″ $250.00 plus $10.00 shipping, 6″ $199.00 plus $10.00 shipping. Google k~drill auger to see video and where to buy…but wait till Guinea piggies like me test it first to make sure it’s not a piece of junk.

How long is it? Looks a few inches shorter than a strikemaster bit.
Also what kind of adapter was needed to put it on the solo powerhead?

It is a little shorter but only a few inches. All you do is unscrew an Allen bolt and pull the electric drill fixture and then slide the bit onto the S.M. Power head and reinsert the bolt. They also sell extensions.

I’m sitting here with a thought and no way of checking but-would that drill connect to an Ion head? I don’t like any of the drill idea’s I’ve seen so far but wish my Ion hole was a little bigger. If it turned the right way it could probably be adapted to Ion. They didn’t say anything about re drilling holes in the video and also all the talk of it binding is a little disconcerting too.

I’m running the 8″ K Drill with a Milwaukee 18v Fuel cordless drill with the 4 ah batteries. It weighs right at 9.5 #’s. I ended up getting 2 more 4 ah batteries off of Amazon for $83 each. We’ve only got 12-13″ of ice in our neck of the woods, but I can get 25-26 holes per battery. I can easily drill 100+ holes with my set up. I have no doubt that one can get 30+ holes per battery with a 6″ in the same ice conditions.
Next year I’ll get a Tanaka powerhead for the thick ice & will have a 17# gas powered auger. IMHO there is no replacement for gas in 18″+ of ice when you have to continually drill & move to get on fish. I don’t miss my SM Lazer, this K Drill drills just as fast & opens up old holes like butter.

You do not need an adaptor to use it with a Solo powerhead. It was designed to do the following. Remove one capscrew, pull out the cordless drill adaptor, insert the Strikemaster or Clam power head, install the capscrew & you are good to go.

The weight numbers here are a little skewed. The 8″ solo lazer pro weighs in at 26lbs not 24lbs. So this would put your Kdrill and solo lazer pro powerhead at roughly 23lbs assuming the kdrill bit weighs 3lbs less.

The question here is will it cut faster or slower and with less torque?

Not to quibble but S.M. Lists the 8″ lazer pro at 25lbs and I did this on a digital bathroom scale, but suffice to say it’s now 3 pounds lighter. As far as speed the drill has been “clocked” at 1″ per second with torque manageable with a hand drill. With this all being said I will be testing it out at the Green Bay GTG with other IDOers present and will report back.

I’ve been running the Milwaukee 18v fuel on a 6.33″ lazer synthetic, was easily getting over 40 holes per 4ah battery on 16″ of ice. The ice is a bit thicker now, but I really don’t see a need to use a different powerhead unless I’m needing a bigger hole.

Anyone have reviews with the kdrill on Strikemaster honda/solo gas powerheads? Ive seen the kdrill on the Tanaka powerhead and it looks good. Probably comes in at 16lbs-17lbs with the 8″ kdrill bit.

I wanna put the kdrill 8″ on my Honda powerhead but it may be too slow…

Speed is only a matter of gearing, torque is the real factor. If whatever powerhead you use turns the drill without over stressing the powerhead the hole will happen…its just how fast it happens. I myself don’t see what a few seconds either way really matters…I guess I’m just not into ice drilling competitions.

It must be in another thread, but at the Green Bay whitefish gtg both Joe the Fisher and I tried it out and the thing ate ice at less than one inch per second, very little torque, nice breakthrough, and no problems. There was 14″ ice I believe and it was attached to a solo powerhead. Both Joe and I were impressed. This winter will determine durability.

Ok thanks. I will not be in more than 10 inches of ice most of the time so this thing looks like it should do a great job. I would also like to see the price come down some and that would seal the deal for me.

If your less than 12″ the K-Drill will work fantastic using the 18volt Milwaukee drill. I have been using mine for a couple of years and very very happy with it.

Looks like dealers might be selling it. Cabelas show it on their web-site. The price is shown as $229 but size is not. I called and after lots of different people they said it’s 6″. I replied that’s $29 over retail. The agent really didn’t care. He said “I’ll make a note of that, goodby”.

I realize this is a very old thread, but I saw this setup (kdrill+powerhead) on a video for the first time last night and it was intriguing. Castle-Rock-Clown, now that you have had this set up for some time, are you still liking it? Also, any specifics you can provide on the best way to set this up myself? I like the functionality of having a powerhead/drill option as I want…..
