Strikemaster: Honda Lite vs Lazer Pro

I’m starting to do my homework on a new auger for next season, as the old Jiffy 30 is past its “prime”. I don’t really want a Propane as Jiffys tend to be on the heavy side. Also not too very interested in electric because I drill a lot (LOT) of holes, plus I have a drill that I can throw on my Mora hand auger if I need to. I’m down to either the SM Honda Lite or the SM Lazer Pro. I’ve watched some H2H videos and they were pretty much equal. I know the Lazer Pro runs a 3hp 54cc 2 stroke while the Honda runs a 35cc 1.6HP 4 stroke. Blades are the same so that’s not an issue. The Honda is slightly lighter at 23lb vs 25lb, but the Lazer seems like it’d have more torque and be less likely to bog down. The Honda doesn’t require oil mixing and purrs like a kitten. The Lazer Takes oil mixing and seems like it’d have more overall drilling power. For those of you that own these machines, which one do you have, do you like it and why?

    Go!

I have the 2.5 hp Solo with 8″ laser blades and it cuts like a hot knife through butter. 4 seasons of use and no issues so far.

I have considered getting the Honda but the price had me think twice.

I had a 3 hp Lazer Pro for several years, great auger, fast & plenty of torque (hit a submerged tree & you’ll find out ) ) but can be a bit finicky starting.
Now I run the Honda 4 stk, starts easy, quiet, a bit slower than the Pro but gets the job done. I also use an Ion inside the house.

The Honda 4-strokes can struggle through thick ice and the Lazer pro 3hp I had to use ear muffs to run it and engine can be easily burnt up if you use synthetic oil and too lean of a ratio. I owned both of these and this is the experiences I had. I now own the Lazer 2.5hp and am very satisfied with it. It is almost as fast as the lazer pro, but much more reliable in starting and not as loud.

Solo 2.5 would be my first option.

I have the Lazer Pro, power is no problem, can cut thru ice easily. The only issue is starting can be an issue as my Lazer Pro tends to flood very easily. Once running, extremely good auger.

Hm, might have to look into the 2.5hp.

I have a 2.5hp and 3.0hp. There is no difference in sound. Both are much quieter than any Jiffy of that size. They both have plenty of power and both start well. I don’t think you can go wrong either one.

I had a Honda in 2013, 2014 and this year I went with the Solo 2.5hp. Wanted to try the 2 stroke again! I loved the Honda with the no mixing of gas and quiet 4 stroke. The Solo started a bit better under cold conditions and was a little faster overall. Both motors had plenty of power to get through any ice thickness without binding. Both are great reliable augers.
I think the decision needs to be made about mixing gas or not and if you run inside a wheelhouse, or the sound, 2 stroke is obviously louder.

My opinion cannot go wrong with either
