Hello everyone, I’m planning a trip to Lake Winnipeg and wondering if my Strikemaster 40v will work with 5ft of ice or if I should invest in a propane auger. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Hello John, you will need an extension for that depth of ice if there is actually 5 feet.

I had mine up there last year in late February. We had 4 feet of ice. I used a 20″ extension and had no trouble getting through. We didn’t move around much because of the cold. I got through the 8 holes I needed and used half of one battery. Another guy in the group had an original ion and needed two batteries to drill 4 holes. From what I’ve heard, there is less ice and snow this year compared to last year.

The warm weather has kept it decent for ice. If you need an extension, there’s a guy here who makes far better ones than the cheap factory ones. 40 cdn, like 28 American.
