Having problems with my strikemaster gas auger and about to throw the towel

Is the Strikemaster 40v pretty much replace the 25v? Or do they make both still? Anyone know where I could get one by the weekend or are they really hard to find? (Called a couple places that were out)

The 24 volt is newer than the 40 volt and both are still made. It was brought out to compete with the “cordless drill” market.
I have the 40 volt for the last two years and absolutely love it. You will have a hard time finding either of them, but I have seen a few popup on facebook marketplace and I believe there was one even listed here not long ago.

Scheels in EP had a stack of them last week when I was in. Once my gasser kicks the bucket, I’ll be going this route too.

    Thanks

I did find a couple 40v in stock locally. They are the Pro Lite. Any info which is better, the standard or the Pro Lite? Or doesn’t it matter?

Pro lite has the light flight bit. It’s the only one I’d buy. Thats what the 24 has as well

How much lighter is that bit than the regular?

Without taking apart my augers and comparing exactly, I would estimate it’s 3-4 pounds lighter.

I know that doesn’t sound like “a lot”, but believe me it makes a significant difference.

It’s not just the overall weight, it’s where the weight “is”.

It’s a lot easier to fling around and carry a lite flight.

Think about how you walk and carry an auger by the handles between holes (like at a 45° angle). The added leverage from a heavier auger bit turns that three or four pounds into six or eight pounds (if that makes sense?)

With a lighter bit, the center of gravity is closer to your body and leverage is lessened.

21# vs. 24# for the 8” models. I would buy the lite model personally. I have a lite flight on a electric drill and clam plate and like it.

    14.3# for the 24v model

Joes had them the other day, too.

I was at Strikemaster yesterday in Minnetonka. You may be able to call them directly and snag one.

My 24v wasn’t working properly…no questions asked they replaced the power head. Was in and out in 10 minutes. Great service.

If you don’t walk and weight isn’t an issue I’d go with the 40v. I walk and weight matters…was also surprised the size difference in the two.

If you go 24v I’d also get 2 batteries for hole hopping.

Only available in 8 inch. Don’t know if I could go back to a 8 inch hole. Love my 40V.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing! Don’t mean to be a d*&@ John, just curious. I can’t even remember the last time I’ve seen a 10-inch hole.

Really my whole crew runs 10 inch holes. Hard for me to fish anything smaller now. Kidding a bit of course but it really looks small after using 10’s for so long. Maybe I catch bigger fish than you guys. jester

I have to imagine you don’t do much hole hopping. I remember back when I ran 10 inch holes. I’m very glad I dont do that any more.
If I sat in a wheel house I would. But I do not do that. And it’s easy to beat my fish lately. I can’t find anything consistent

Don’t hole hop as much as I used to. In the house I love having 10’s to fish out of. I still have my gas 8 inch if needed. I was thinking of getting a drill set up, but my buddy I fish with just bought a 24V so early ice we will use that. I really don’t find it that much harder to drill holes with compared to any 8 inch I have used before. Was totally kidding on the fish, its been a rough year so far.

The 40v pro also comes with a 6ah battery compared to the 5ah the original 40 came with
