I would rather carry the extra 4 pounds and always have the power.

Yup, 2.5x more battery capacity in the 40v pro than the 24v.

I would rather carry the lighter one, and keep an extra battery in the sled if I needed it. There’s a ton of times when you don’t need it and four or 5 pounds can make a heck of a difference. I have the drill and pistol bit combination, the other day I picked up my ion and couldn’t believe how heavy it was. It seemed like a feather back when I got it compared to other gas models. Ion is gone now-sold.

The day the difference of 17 lbs. vs 22 lbs. keeps me from fishing effectively, I’ll need to make some better life choices in regards to my physical fitness. Until then, I’ll carry my 40v (ION X) and not have to worry about power requirements come late Jan through March.

I’m sorry, why would you want to drag a extra battery around to baby sit, then just carry 3.7 lbs more from the beginning. If your already dragging a sled why bring more gear. Makes 0 sense.

I like the 24v so far.

Dragging 4-5 pounds around isn’t a big deal. Neither is carrying an extra battery. I’d rather carry the extra battery as a backup. If you carry a backup for everything else, why wouldn’t you for the most important piece of equipment you have (good luck ice fishing with no hole). That makes no sense. People carry extra rods, reels, flasher batteries, propane tanks, etc. Whether you have the 24v or the 40v, get a spare battery and bring it. The 24v batteries are smaller, I hardly notice it on the inside pocket of my Striker jacket.

In terms of power, I haven’t run into ice I couldn’t get through. The auger isn’t designed to go hole hopping on 36” of ice on Winnipeg in February. The 40v isn’t either. The chances of running into something in between, where the 24v can’t get it done, but the 40v can, are extremely slim.

The chances of running into battery capacity being an issue are slim. How many people are actually out drilling more than 70 holes (that’s the absolute minimum you’ll get a 24v on 18-20”)?

We’re talking $250 difference between the 24v and 40v with lite flite. That’s pretty significant.

It comes down to personal presence and fishing style. But, I can assure you after using the 24v pretty extensively, StrikeMaster isn’t putting out an auger that doesn’t drill holes.

That weight isn’t very significant when dragging the sled, but that 3.7lbs is very significant when you’re drilling holes and walking around between holes.

I’m aware how it works, I drill lots of holes. If 4 pounds breaks the back you may need to think about working out. If the price is no issue then the 40 is the way to go.and saying very significant I think is a bit of a stretch lol

I’m 100% with you but it comes down to different strokes for different folks. There’s a significant portion of fishermen that will never need the second battery on a 24v. That’s why every auger company has multiple options.

The 24V with 8″ drill weighs 14.3 lbs.

The 40V Pro with 8″ drill weighs 21 lbs.

Thanks James. I had tried to find the weight of the 40v Pro but couldn’t find that.

That 6.7 lb difference is very significant to me, but maybe that makes me a weakling who needs to work out.

Thanks James. I had tried to find the weight of the 40v Pro but couldn’t find that.

I had to pull it from the catalog. Their website didn’t have that info available online. I assume because it isn’t available for sale online.

Thanks everyone for the input I think I’m gonna go with a 24 V because of the size and with an extra battery which everyone seems to carries with the 24 and the 40 lt will get all the holes I need for a days fishing 🎣
