The water here on the Cedar is really coming up and I mean alot. The latest water level predictions are its supposed to be 1.5′ higher then the 1929 flood which flooded all the downtown area with 4′ of water and its supposed to be as bad as the flood that happened in 1843. We stopped by a furniture store this morning thats close to the river and it had just a foot to go befor it came over the wall and onto the parking lot there and its supposed to come up another five feet. It don’t look good for alot of lower areas here in town and major flooding is predicted, city crews are working themsleves to sleep and theres hundreds of sandbaggers working everywhere. They say this may be a 500 year flood. Most of the towns up river are under water or have major flooding and that highwater hasen’t hit here yet. They built an earth dike across a couple roads here to try to hold the water back. Everybodys doing all they can but I don’t know if thats going to be enough, it does look like it isn’t.
