as of sunday the main channel (the part with the moving water) was all the way open from fishermans inn to ponderosa. i think a few of the little bays still have some ice on them though.

does anyone know when the crappies start to move up shallow on lake zumbro. we did pretty good on the slabs last May. do think they’re shallow as soon as the ice goes out?? i’ve never been out in april before.

Thanks Jake. I haven’t fished it much the past 5 years but plan on changing that this year. Need to get out and fish during the week [fishing fix] too between weekends.I use to get them in April once the water warmed up but they were in there to eat, not spawn. Check the drop off area outside the bays, then the opening of the bay, then the center area of the bay, then shallows till you locate them. Thanks, Bill

the lake is completely open now….(so my friend on postiers point says) as for crappies….I’ve Always found the 2 weeks before the inland lake opener for walleye/ northen pike to be the best for shallow water bite…give or take according to the weather…..3 years ago I landed a pike that went 46 1/2 inches 2 days before the opener…fishing for crappies in a back bay area!!!!!

    oh yeah, that’s a nice fish .

one never knows what they might catch out of that lake with a jig. last spring fishing for crappies i caught sunnies, LMB, SMB, northern, white bass, perch, catfish, and carp. oh yeah, and a whole lot of dandy crappies. all shallow and with a little crappie jig.

Mike at Hooked On Fishing Bait and Tackle has heard that the Crappies are starting to suspend and are biting somewhat. Nothing hot, but at least getting hungry. Don’t have anymore info yet but if anyone gets out there please feel free to post how you did. Its a nice close spot for a fishing fix between weekends. Thanks, Bill
