On my float yesterday i noticed a very large number of channel cats floating with burst stomachs/guts. What causes this? Are they spawning right now, or is it a bacterial thing, or something in the water? The only dead fish i saw were channel cats, no other fish, not even flatheads or bullheads.

i see that every year on the cedar. I don’t know if they get in to warm of water or what but there seems to be dead cat on the river every year. hasn’t hurt the population of them though.

Ive seen it too befor and i’ll bet its the low oxygen content. Up where your at the rivers are quite a bit shallower so it warms up all the way to the bottom like the shallower portion here. The warmer than most temps that we’ve had over the last month dosen’t hold enough disolved oxygen like cool water does. I’ll bet this is the culprit.
