Thanks, Bill – have you and Nate left some walleyes for others to catch??
Today certainly wasn’t the nicest day, weather wise, I’ve spent on the water, but it was good to get out today. Area streams are all very low and very clear. The absence of snow, snowpack, and any subsequent melting is obvious throughout the area (just look out your window).
I fished standard #14 scuds in a yellow/orange color with a #20 black Simpleton Midge as a trailer. Midge larvae and pupae are also good choices this time of year, as well as brassies despite much success today using them. Fish were somewhat aggressive despite temperatures that failed to reach much over 30 degrees. Patience, stealth, accurate casting with fine tippets, and more patience are keys right now. There were a few trout taking midges – a dimpling of the surface instead of the slashy type strikes anglers witness at other times. I didn’t bother with dries since there weren’t many trout taking midges.
Good luck to all.
