Fished the Cedar for 3 hours on Friday, the 11th of November. Caught 4 eyes, 18.5, 18, 15, and 14. A 13″ Largemouth, and a 18.5″ Smallmouth!!! The thing was massive. Here is a pic of the eyes that headed to the fry-pan and freezer. The hog smallie is free to produce more hog smallies, and maybe bite my line again. All the eyes came on a jig-head and minnow or a 4″ Gulp minnow. The smallie and largemouth came on a Silver/black #7 shadrap.

Fished the Cedar again today, Sunday the 13th, and caught one more 16″ eye and lost a decent, probably 28″ northern. Wayyyyy to windy to fight the current and the wind so i called it quits after an hour or so.

Thanks for the report. Please feel free to share and post all you want. Everyone learns from each persons sharing. Sounds like a fun day on the water. What are your air and water temps down there? Can you tell me more about the Cedar River? I hear there are some deep areas and also some very shallow areas.
    Thanks, Bill

The Cedar is pretty shallow, but there are many deep holes, some reaching 12+ ft. Cut banks with log jams are producing the best. Air temps have been in the mid 60’s this week, but are going to be in the mid 40’s or lower this week. Not sure what the water temps are. Wish i had a depth finder w/ temp!

I don’t spend the money to drive to the Mississippi much any more when I can catch good eyes right in my home waters. The DNR has done a great job of improving our interior rivers via stocking in recent years. I assume that this report involves the upper reaches of the Cedar, but the eyes roam all along the Cedar river.

This was near Cedar Falls. Not sure what it is like farther south, but i can’t imagine it being any worse. The water has clouded up a bit after last week, and will probably get worse after this week, but hopefully it clears up soon so we can get one last open water bite in, then it’s on to the ice!!!!
