Well it was hard to go back to the Cedar after spending three days on pool 4, but I’m glad we did!! BFD and I spent Sat. pm on the cedar. The water had dropped since last week and gave BFD the opportunity to test that part of the outboard that releases and flys up out of the water when you strike a log(he says it’s important to test it on a log so you know it will work if you hit a rock) I discovered during this same test that rain gear only provides moisture protection from the outside of the suit. We caught five walleye, 15 to 23.5 and three smallies 16&17. All released. We tried ringworms and kalins at dark, but other than one smallie that BFD took on a ringworm all the fish were taken on cranks. The largest was caught by BFD and came on the slop rod. ….cheers…………..B

Why yes old friend ecnook, there is a part of the story left untold. It seems as though BFD, that same merciless tyrant who so quickly rushed to judge you for beating his alledged 6lb. walleye off at the boat with your itty-bitty net last spring, neglected to bring a net of any size on Saturday!!! Be prepared ye readers of this board, his story will surely be that we weren’t going to keep any fish anyway. Accept this explanation if you wish, but ask yourselves, how does he apply a slop rod to walleye fishing..hmmmm…….B

I learned from some guys a week ago on pool 4 that if you are not going to keep any fish there is no need to stress the fish with a net. I knew if I took one along, Big B would be tempted to use it.We all know how easily he gets tempted. As for the walleye slop rod , It is a guarded secret. I learned it from a blind man that ran booze up the Cedar during Prohibition. After he dies I might be able to tell the readers here about it.

Does that explain all the bottles I see in the log jams lol how about some specifics on that mighty river, north? south? Not asking for the hot spot

BFD, someday their gonna come for you with the net. HA! . Eyetracker, I see from your profile that we have been fishing in your neighborhood. No real hot spot, but look for the deepest water you can find adjacent to rocks. The water has cleared and the fish seem to be deeper, out from the rocks a little farther than before. I think fishing pressure from the bank has had an effect on weekends also…….B

Don’t sweat it, BFD – the spring fishing below the dam at Independence has been pretty good the last couple of years. I’m sure the guys at MHI would be glad to let you out for a morning.

Maybe they would let me fish in a bucket. If Big B came to guide me, I bet we just might catch something.
