Has anyone been on the cedar river lately in the st. ansgar area fishing smallmouth? if so how is the fishing and where would there be good access points to wade? i am maybe going to be up there over the weekend with my wife and would like to do some smallmouth fishing but am not real familiar with the area. any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Good luck on the Cedar north of Osage, I use to fish this stretch for Smallies but the last couple of years the rocks are covered with a slime from some source of pollution that I finally gave up the cause. Sad situation for what could be a great smallmouth river.

Hey guys! The “pollution” is not the case. We had some real high water most of last summer that has moved the fish. There has been a lot of moss coming down but has been better this week. I live on the Cedar near Floyd and have been catching smallies consistently. I was up near the Mitchell dam with some success just a few weeks ago. You should do well anywhere there is a rocky shallow stretch in the river with some current. Current has been low the last two weeks. Crankbaits, topwaters have been working great. Good luck and let me know how it goes. OUT…
