7/25/2002 Cannon River livebait rigging
The fishing on Cannon Lake of the Cannon River Chain has slowed but there are several ways to catch some fish reports say. Using different techniques for catching eyes will put some fish in the boat.
Slowly working 3-ways or a lindy rig with a leech or crawler in 8-10 ft. backtrolling or drifting on the flats will catch you a few walleyes. The fishing is not fast so you will have to have patience and work the areas over good.
For those of you who don’t have the patience for working that slow you will find the points, especially the one by Shager Park and also the flat from the park to the point to be giving up white bass. If you still want eyes and like to troll then the way to go is shad raps trolled fast, 3-5 mph, on the flats in clown color or firetiger will work too but this bite is in the evening between 6:00 and 9:00 pm.
This cooler, not so humid weather, should make it more enjoyable to be on the water and with the evening bite being the best bite everyone should be able to put some fish in the boat. Be sure and stop and see Brett at Fairbault Bait and Tackle for your bait and crankbaits and say Hi to Lyle if you see him in the back fixing reels. See ya on the water. Bill
