Was wondering what are some of your favorite stretches of the Upper Iowa River to fish. I enjoy mostly the upper stretches.

The upper stretches are hard to beat as far as scenery goes but….for fishing the section below the lower dam area is hard to beat. Smallies, Walleyes, and White Bass seem to move all the way up from the Mississippi to that spot which is a natural congregation area for them in the spring. Then, throughout the summer, they seem to spread out downstream to their habitat of liking.

Besides, I like to stand at the hill overlooking the lower dam area and ask myself, “how in the world did they get a dam built in that spot????” Pretty amazing if you haven’t seen it.

Wow, this board is dead! Great post Hybes, almost 2 weeks ago, and no one but me has responded to it. HELLOOOOOO!!!!! Everyone must be fishing or talking about the get together. Believe it or not, there is life outside of the EFN get together. Come on guys, we want to hear from you!

I lived up there for 3 years while I was going to school, but only fished it once. No car, no money, and no time. The one time I did fish it, we fished the rock walls with spinners up around Bluffton and picked up a couple of smallmouths.

Does anybody pike fish on that river? Any in there? I would think right there in Decorah where Dunnings dumps in would be a good place when the water temps get high.

Ive never caught any pike in the upper iowa, there probably is some in the lower stretches below the lower dam though. My favorite stretches are from lime springs to kendalvile, and then below the lower dam. If you fish below the lower dam, ya never know what your going to catch. The upper iowa isnt my favorite NE stream, but its in the top 3. Hope to give it a shot when i come home in a week.

FINALLY!! some responses. Thanks guys.I was beginning to wonder why dont more people respond. If your interested in smallies I woud try Lime Springs to Granger and you would probably have it all to yourself.Granger to kendalville is good also with a chance of a bonus trout or two. I would have to say that pike would be below the dam at Decorah if any were around. I know there is pike in the Turkey River from Cresco down and also some sauger that the DNR is stocking that suprised me!!
