Sorry so late with this, but I was fishing Saturday around running to a family reunion up near the MN border at the Otranto dam, and a little bit in and around Austin.
All of the fish were caught in Iowa. The river is high throughout, much more noticable the farther South you went. Otranto was up over the sandbar which normally is where they launch canoes. Picked up a couple of smallies on cranks in the AM on Saturday, firetiger cranks fished just outside of the heavy current along the breakline with the slackwater on the East bank (below where it narrows). Saturday evening I caught a pair of hammerhandles in the slackwater, one on a yellow spinnerbait w/ single colorado blade, the second on a rattletrap style bait.
There was another fella there fishing with his boy who pulled another pike that may have gone 3 1/2 or 4 pounds, and a third guy fishing for carp right off the heavy current who had about a half dozen piled up when I left.
One more note: The second smallie had a big sore on his bottom lip. I figure this may just be from digging in the rocks for crawdads?? Who knows.
