It’s impossible to prep for everything mother nature can throw at you. If you think you can you are either stupid or arrogant or both. If you run the risk and take your young kids out in it you are a drunk kind of stupid. Many things can go wrong on the ice without bad weather.

Everybody throws the word “stranded” around like some sort of badge of honor. The storm could have easily dumped two feet of snow instead of a couple inches. Hind sight is always perfect. The so called “Dads” who take their young sons or daughters out in dangerous weather and act like it’s some badge of honor run the risk of living with a terrible mistake the rest of their lives. Is it worth it? Really?

    Well said Ice Cap

There are some people who will go to the edge of the world and come back alive, not everyone can do that nor are willing to be exposed to that.

I agree…we’ve lost so many young children the last few years when theses storms hit. When will these people learn?

So what do you do when you are all stranded in, ice roads are closed it’s a complete white out. No one is going anywhere and someone in your family or party has a serious medical emergency? What a complete frightening experience and you could be living with a outcome you can’t live with. But hey you got plenty beer, propane and food. What could go wrong right?

And for what a couple fish? Just the thought of that scenario is enough to keep me on the side of better judgement.

Wardcst posted a couple pics from South Dakota. I wish someone could explain, in lay terms and in a sensible way, why anyone would haul a full sized, 5th wheel, travel trailer out on a lake. Especially with the wind conditions that are evident in the pictures. People doing this shouldn’t even have a driver’s license. Note he said they called for help. How many people do you think were put in harm’s way just to fetch this idiots toys?

OMFG! They now make 2 story gooseneck ice castles! May as well drive semi’s out on the lakes. I’m not even sorry to anyone who owns one then drags it out on a couple 13…14 inches of ice. Talk about stupid…..wow!

You can’t live your life around “what if’s???”…..if you did, it would be one boring life sitting on a couch wrapped in bubble wrap.

    Get out and enjoy life

Go to places without cell service

    Have FUN

When my wife’s water broke I was sitting on Red Lake lol

To my defense, the boys wanted out two months early. I made it home in plenty of time waytogo

I was out their two weeks ago and walked a mile out.
Yes there were places with 14 inches of ice.
But were I fished there was 7 inches.
They plowed a road by me while I was fishing.
And as I was leaving a guy come out on the new road.
    Guess what he found.
Slush pocket he came out after dark on that new road.

Actually that’s one of the most ignorant posts I’ve ever heard. Where are we losing these children by the way? News to me.

We have extra everything… houses, generators, gas, food, water and extra transportation. We usually have two snowmobiles as well. Impossible to prepare? I think not. Spouting nonsense on a public forum shaming people who are prepared to love the outdoors. Really?

    Holy Hanna Joe!
Those are some incredible crappies! bow

I can’t remember the lake you caught those on, what was the name? Were you catching them in that one spot on, um what were you catching them on again? whistling

    lol

Actually there are a lot of great lakes in the area. Not saying you can go anywhere and catch fish like this but there are dozens of lakes near Alexandria kicking these out right now. Just need to be there the night they show up to eat.

Just make sure the ice isn’t too thin and not too thick or it might buckle. Oh and not too cloudy or you can’t see very well and not snowing and not windy and not too sunny or the ice might melt and and… you know what its really not safe. In fact anyone that ventures on the lake is an idiot… right Ice Cap? waytogo

    Agree.

Double agree. It’s wind and snow. God, half the fishouses are build better then most trailer homes and those people seem to survive during a MN winter.
