My Polaris 570 ATV broke down off the beaten path, it wont start ! All I get when I turn the key is a sharp click and nothing . It seems the starter is not even trying to turn over . I changed out the fuses and shuffled around the the relays to no avail .The battery is good and every thing works except it wont turn over . What would happen if I put power directly to the starter with the key on ? Would that bypass the solenoid and prove or disprove a faulty solenoid ? I can see a red boot and presumably the power supply to the starter and a black wire presumably the ground . If I jumped onto that circuit would that possibly start my bike ? or would that be a bad approach ? Like I said it is off the beaten path in the woods so access to a service shop is not possible. Any suggestion as to what the problem could be and a possible solution would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes, your idea to bypass is exactly what I would be trying.

Did shut off suddenly? Or just fail to start? If it just failed to start I’d be going out there with tools and a new starter and solenoid.

Had this happen with a sportsman 700 I used to have. Went for a ride and stopped to get gas and when I went to start it nothing. Ended up being the starter was seized up. No warning signs just worked then didn’t.

Starter probably seized. Take a hammer or whatever and tap the starter a few times. I had a 76 Torino that would periodically do exactly what you are describing. Starter will need to be replaced but this may get you going again in the event you are in no man’s land. Worth a shot.

Happened on my grizzly, starter solinoid went. I was able to jump it by touching the two leads on the solinoid with a pair of pliers.

Put power to the starter but only got smoke . So that was not a good idea.
Will try to locate solenoid and try jumping that

I would guess the starter is seized or the solenoid is bad. Dave already asked, did it stopped suddenly or is it just failing to re-start after shutting it down?

There was an issue with the early 570 wiring harness (14-15?). They were routed around the frame in the rear versus inside and they would wear through the insulation. I would check the harness around the rear section of the frame for wear.

Have you tried to manually turn motor over? Could be seized or gas in cylinder.

No luck with getting started yet . Had a contractor working for me with a bobcat today so I had him drag the bike home and I sent it to the dealer.
    Thanks for all the sugestions
