Storm Lake is a 3100 acre lake located in NW Iowa in the town of the same name.It is a very shallow lake with most of the water from 4-7′ deep.A few years ago the town of Storm Lake bought a dredge and have been working to get deeper water in parts of this lake. There in now areas of the lake that have 15′ of water. The walleye season is open all year on this lake with the summer months being the best bite. The main forage in this lake is shad with the white bass being a close second. This lake is also one of the best channel catfish lakes in the state. In the spring you will see many wader fishermen trying their luck casting jig/twister combo’s for shallow walleyes in rock areas. In the summer the main presentation is pulling crankbaits.Black and silver, firetiger, and blue and chrome are a few great colors to get you started.I have the best luck on shad style baits. Also do not be afraid to pull your baits fast on this lake.We will catch our walleyes as fast as 3.5 mph at times. With this lake being very shallow we always have a few planer boards out to get our lines away from the boat.Another thing to watch is the wind.If the wind is blowing hard then stay away as this lake gets very dirty and shuts the fishing down.Best of luck to all those who give this lake a try.
