Will nightcrawlers keep in buss bedding with a styrofoam cooler in the basement on the floor for several weeks? I cant use our refrigerator in the kitchen. I dont want to buy a second refrigerator. I dont want to change out ice packs. I am looking for a very low hassel hassle method.

I put mine in a worm box with buss bedding and then place that inside a cooler with a frozen 2 liter. Rotate out the frozen 2 liter with a fresh one when melted. Frozen 2 liter lasts a few days with the cooler in the garage. Pretty hassle free

Thanks crappie, the freezer portion our refrigerator is really small. So even a one liter would be pushing it.

Looking at different websites and some say 40 to 65 degrees. The floor of our basement is under 65. So i think i will try it without ice packs and see how it goes. If i pick them myself this weekend no big deal if it doesn’t work.

Watch out if you have Ants. I know a few guys who keep theirs in the basement and the Ants got into the box and killed most of the crawlers

That would be an ugly sight, and probably increase the ant population!

I think they would keep fine in a cool basement. If they go bad the smell will let you know though!

I bought a small 6 bottle wine cooler off of facebook. $20, keeps them at about 45 degrees. Works great. Not as cold as frig.
