Does anybody have any tips for storing bulk Eurolarvae?

I know they like it cold, just a few degrees over freezing. I’ve also seen many many times how they begin to pupate and get hard if exposed to any heat, like in a jacket pocket.

Has anybody had any luck just keeping them in a 38 degree fridge for long periods of time, or do I need to figure out something a bit colder, say in the 34-35 degree range?

I’m trying a 1000-pack for $20 to see how long they keep and if it’s cost effective.

34-35 is better when storing the Eurolarvae. I put my bulk Eurolarvae in a zip top bag.

Try not to add any sawdust.
Red and white ones tend to live longer than the green ones for some reason.
Try not to move them around a bunch.

I buy 1000 mix of red and white at the start of every season. I keep them in the fridge, not sure of the temp but they usually last around 3 months for me.There will be some that die off but I still find plenty of live ones in there

Take out only what you’ll be using in a day and never, ever put the left overs back in the bulk bag. If you have some left over just leave them in a cold spot with the gear.

I buy 1000 red spikes from Vados every year and keep them in my garage fridge. Wife won’t let me keep them in the house fridges after I dumped them one morning. The only problem I have run into was not clearing the dead ones fast enough once. Otherwise there good for months in the fridge.

    Fishnutbob,
Why change the sawdust to Cornmeal? Eurolarvae are maggots so they don’t eat saw dust or cornmeal. OR is cornmeal less messy?

Eurolarva are not shipped with or stored in anything but a sealable bag. No sawdust, no cornmeal.

Did it to get rid of the sawdust mess easier to get at the bait and absorb moisture.

My mind is mixed up today sorry I did this with wax worms not Larvae. LOL

I always got my bait from Vados but last year I tried Knutsons from Michigan and the sawdust they shipped my Eurolarva in kept them good until April. A lot longer than any year prior to Vados. So I’m going back to Knutsons

So I was correct because I fished with Larvae when Dave Genz would bring it to my Bait store in St. Boni Mn. I don’t remember any dust in it back then…. but it is a panfish killer just don’t freeze it. Take a small puck with the bait. Lets Roll

Vados was my go to bait store.

Believe it or not all I do is put them in a deep Styrofoam cup and put fresh pine shavings on them and keep them in the refrigerator sealed & they lasted almost 9 months but like stated above I also never put any back in after I take them out for use.
