Talking summer gear here. I noticed fishing line was the hardest for me to find anything else? tackle, gear, fishing wise? I plan to do a fairly large order soon here. I have a lot of plastics I would like to use them up before I get more but not sure what did all of you all have a hard time finding? I hope it wont be as bad as last year but considering many boat dealers cannot get many more boats even stocking up on 1# propane tanks this summer I still may not have enough. Thoughts

I’ve been stocking up this winter. Last season was bad. Bare shelves and empty pegs. I had a hard time finding hooks, lures, and plastics I was looking for in person so I had to order online which I do not care for because of shipping costs and delays. When I need something, it’s because I need it in 2 days when I’m going fishing, not in a week.

I’ve been to Dicks Sporting Goods and Cabelas in the past month and they both had good inventory. Whether it stays that way I don’t know but I’m not taking any chances this season. Buy it while you can, I say.

I didn’t have a problem finding anything. As long as you don’t hoard TP, we can be friends!

Exactly. It’s mostly BECAUSE of people “stocking up” that there are so many shortages. Seems like common sense…

Went on a tower shoot last weekend with buddy’s. Man the shelves were bare for ammo. We managed to find enough to shoot. Went through 200 rounds of various 20 guage. Didnt find what I wanted but found what I needed. I’m not hoarding ammo but people sure are…..

People have hoarded ammo for a long time. That’s nothing new at this point. Political elections and mass shootings have sent people to the store buying ammo for years. Stocking up on TP, eggs, meat, or other daily/weekly essentials long term is new.

I never recall seeing empty ammo shelves like I have now.

I learned a lesson on buying online, you don’t always get what you want. I started making my own paracord slip sinkers and have a nice supply of paracord and slingshot lead balls, but I was short on snaps for easy attach and detach from the line. So off the Cabela’s, Fleet Farm, Gander and Scheels, and wouldn’t you know it, could not find any decent snaps. So on to the Internet, and I happened upon a site the sells only in bulk, so I read all the info, all seemed legit, and it was a Texas company, so I ordered swivel snaps and just snaps, had to order 100 of each. Used them all summer, no issues, seemed like a good deal. By the way, the packaging had writing in Chinese, so I can guess where they were made.

A week ago we did our annual 3 generation trip to Lake of the Woods. Great trip, lots of fish. Typically, I catch the most, my son catches the biggest, and my dad kind of struggles with new technology. Well my son caught a 8 Lb Pout, and a bit later I caught a 10 Lb Pout. Then he caught a 15″ Sauger and I later caught a 17″ Sauger. He caught a 18″ Walleye and later I caught a 23″ and then a 24″ Walleye. All was good for me, but he seemed bummed. Well, then he hooked into a trophy Walleye, couldn’t tell you what size it was, but it was pushing the 30″ range if not over. And what happens, the line breaks, and he was fighting it well. SUCK. Except, when he finally looked at his line, the swivel snap came apart, the line did not break. The swivel snap came apart before the 6 Lb Flouro line broke. What a bummer, losing a trophy over a cheap swivel.

Anyway, I would rather hold it in my hand before I buy from now on, unless it is brand name, and even then there are so many fraud products in fraud packaging.

I do. Every time there’s a mass shooting and the politicians start talking about more firearm legislation there is a mad rush to buy more guns and ammo.

X2 I’ve been trying to find a box of 243 ammo for coyote hunting, and it’s pretty much non existent!

I have been loading up and stocking up on fishing tackle, it was stupid last year to find plastics that weren’t out.

I am getting packages every week for the next few months, lol.

Get a bulk spool of line and protect it from heat, humidity, and light. It’ll save money in the long run. Or since you’re getting a better price per yard, you can use higher quality line for the same cost. You’ll never have to worry about running out of line on the filler spool, leaving you with a half full reel spool.

I think it’s time people started investing in refillable 1lb Flame King propane tanks rather than hoarding Coleman 1-pounders. This season was a good wake-up call for those using propane augers or commonly using small portable flip-over shacks with small Buddy Heaters. The Flame Kings are super easy to use, and I’ll make my money back before long. I paid a total of $150 for a refill kit and 5 extra tanks for a total of 6 tanks. I already had a 20-pounder that I use to refill my 5-pounder and 1-pounders.

I can’t wait to buy up all this lightly used gear in a few years when all the noob sportsmen decide they don’t use the stuff they bought during covid.

Wonder how many people who impulsively bought RVs, boats, and other recreational items will start unloading them because they realized they aren’t using them as much as they did during a pandemic?

Classic sales tactic, tell people they can’t have something and they want it more..even if they don’t need it..some may even call it the “Death and Doom” close..better sign today..might be gone tomorrow applause

I hope a lot! The used boat market is so crazy right now, I’m leaning toward buying new in the next year or two.

As far as stocking up goes, I haven’t done anything out of the ordinary and don’t plan on it. I do have a 1/4 of Malmo Mafioso Beef, probably 1/4 hog and a deer in the freezer, but I’ve been doing that for years jester

The infamous 23/64s jigs were fiendishly difficult to find last summer, so as soon as I see some, I’m stocking up. BTW, Deertracker, I’m still bitter that you didn’t let me in on the fact that your super-secret tackle shop had some in stock until you got there and cleaned them all out.

I never recall seeing empty ammo shelves like I have now.

Totally agree. The 2012 ammo panic was nothing compared to this last one. Hunting ammo and shotgun shells were virtually unaffected back in 2012-2014, it was hoarding of .22, .223, and 9 MM. Getting factory hunting ammo was seldom an issue back then.

This current ammo panic / hoarding has cleaned EVERYTHING out. Even shotgun shell target loads and uncommon big-game chambering rifle ammo is gone with no end in sight. Reloading components disappeared last summer as well.

What really p!sses me off is that I strongly suspect most of the hoarding is being done by guys that don’t really shoot that much. But their buddy heard from a guy at work that the crazy dems are going to outlaw ammo tomorrow, so he went out and bought everything he could get his hands on and threw it on a garage shelf next to the other ammo that he never got around to shooting…

    Stop hoarding and everybody wins.

Normally simple supply and demand economics would explain shortages. But the current and recent past shortages on Ammo and other goods are being caused by way more factors than Simple Supply and demand. I don’t blame ANYONE from wanting to buy and keep larger supplies of things including Ammo. When the day does come when Regulations, Tax’s, limits, Ect. does happen who will be looked at the smart people and who will be the dumb ones?

Trying not to go all political here. But Grouse, have you actually taken a few minutes to read H.R.127 ?

Edit – I don’t want to have a discussion/debate on the bill. Just pointing out why many of us will buy up any and all ammo they can right now. Not “some crazy guy at work”….

Now when I see a rod that I might want to try. I buy it. It may not exist tomorrow or I might not exist tomorrow so seize the day. Even if it’s just practice casting in the backyard on the snow, it’s worth it.

I read it. I think it would be terrible if this bill became law. But you have to realize that it has zero cosponsors. It’s a false statement to attribute this bill to anyone other than the Congresswoman from Texas who is the bill sponsor.

I’ll bet anyone whatever amount of money they want that it won’t become law during the next four years. But the plenty of people will use it to raise money for their causes (on both sides).
