We found the fishing to be on the slow side. On Thurs we fished walleye alley and Spirit Lake with only a couple at each. Fish bit nite crawlers with pink blade and a orange jig with a crawler. Jig and minnow (chart, orange, gold)did not work. From 9-10 am,…there was a fish being landed just about all the time with most getting a fish or two. The bite quit as suddenly as it started. Males were milking which we’ve never seen this time of year. We left figuring we’d hit them above the 23 bridge on Friday. We read the regs and were disappointed to find it wasn’t open to May 18th for some yet unknown reason. Anybody know why?
Friday was better,..a few boats were having good luck but we struggled to get the pattern down. It was important to get the spinners closer to the bottom,…no 3 ways or bottom bouncers. Jig and minnow also worked with a safety pin spinner. Orange best color for both. The fish both days fought well and were in the 17-22″ range.
Fishing should only get better. I bet the “opener” above the bridge was great! Sorry,…pictures are in my partners camera.
