Stillwater area

Camping between boom site and high bridge next week. Any general suggestions for depths or tactics this time of year up there? on my Garmin the entire area is striped red with no contours, which seems strange?

Worst case I could run down to the Hudson area where I have some experience, but it would be nice to stay relatively close to camp.

I’m pretty open on species. Not eating fish this week. Eyes, bass, pike, whities all fun for me.

    Thanks!

Get some crawlers and shore fish sturgeon right from your campsite.

That’s a great idea for night around camp. Still would like to get the boat out and do some more active fishing so any feedback on the area is more than welcome!

    Good old garmin mapping…

On my phone I have both navionics and garmin c-maps.

While the latter is prettier to look at with its colorful shaded relief and high resolution bathymetry turned on, it also is completely missing big sections of the rivers. Like you said, drowned in red. Lame.

Yeah, I can infer from past reports and my one trip to this area years back that I should be safe in terms of depth in the channel all the way up to the high bridge, but it would be nice to be able to scout some locations from home ahead of time.

Plan for the campsite is to soak crawlers under a lighted float and throw some whopper ploppers to keep me occupied. But still looking for some ideas on nearby areas to hit with the boat.

Going to fish similar to upper P2 where there are no wingdams, natural current breaks are what you’ll be looking for. I’ll add since there is not much rock, wood can be great fish holders of all species.

    Thanks Nick, that’s helpful.

One last bump in hopes someone has anything else to say about fishing the croix near Stillwater. Thanks!
