Bad dog! Read the OP again chased

This has to be uncharted territory for the southern portion of the state. Early/mid May ice out while not the norm is still nothing new for northern lakes. After that last storm it’s like the whole state is going to thaw at the same time this year.

I think the DNR updates the site only a couple times a week. I’d be surprised if a bunch don’t show up today or tomorrow.

The other question is how many lakes do they actually monitor? Obviously, there aren’t 10,000+ pins on the map.

BTW… a fair amount of water opened up on Lake St. Croix over the weekend. Enough for all the migrating pelicans to have to avoid ice flows. Am curious how much more opened up today.

Looking at the forecast and I would guess that the majority of lakes are open in time for opener.

I really hope you’re not referring to this Pelican Lake…

Lake Byllesby was the only thing besides Pepin that looked open from today’s satellite image.

It is all public input, I believe. They have a link on their site to join a Facebook group to monitor ice out.

Here’s how many lakes they had on there last year.

While we didn’t fish pelican today I was on the ice in the Detroit Lakes area today and there’s still 24+ inches of ice on the lake we fished. Shorelines are questionable in some spots as one would expect but we had no issues getting around.
