What patterns are you noticing? How will bass react to the big plunge?

Deep pools in the bends of river should start putting out. Live bait like shiners or suckers seem to be needed to entice em. This high water scattered em for me but starting to drop.

Made it out on Whitefish today. No whoppers, but the bass were hitting pretty well on a big jig/power craw and Tx rig power craw in about 10FOW. Water was about 53 degrees. Hope it wasn’t the last trip. Getting cold this weekend.

On the lakes around here I like to focus on the remaining green weeds when it gets cooler. This seems to hold the most fish for me this time of year. Squarebills and lipless baits to find them. If bite gets slow, I switch to suspending Jerkbaits and t-rigs.

Fish were still biting this weekend, but water was still 55 or so. Even gots a few on a buzzbait.

SpoonbillSlayer-do you use cranks to find green weeds and then go with slower stuff? What are good late season lakes up your way?
    Thanks

I had good success today on deep cranks on deep weeds as well as T-rigged craws. Water temps were 53 degrees. Have to slow down for sure.

Yeah, that is what I mostly do. Also think of areas that were pretty thick with weeds in the summer, say in 6-12ft of water and check out those areas now. Pick a lake in Wright county, most are decent. Maple or Clearwater are some of the more well know ones.

Due to some family illnesses and unfortunately lost my younger brother, I hadn’t fished in 5 weeks. Will be winterizing soon, but I thought I had to get out at least once more. Was out yesterday in 31 degree air temps, and 38 degree water temps. Had to contest with frozen guides and fingers.. lasted 3.5 hours and caught two 15 inch largemouth and one 4 lb pike. Not enough to justify how cold it was but if I end up winterizing, at least I got out one last time!!

    FryDog62, Sorry for you loss.

Smallmouths are schooling up on the river. Big suckers worked the best if you can stand the cold.

Very nice, motivating to get out one more time. Maybe with air temps mid 40’s next week will help!

I used to fish this shallow lake for pike-very fun lake, full of pike, some nice ones too. Went out with this guy in November with my boat and it was frozen! He was so mad- I thought you had this lake dialed in! He shouted. Funny.
Went out to fish Cedar in Mpls. launched at Calhoun no problem went through isles, then got into a narrow part of the channel and Ice! Could not break through could see open water on the other side maybe 50′ away. Oh well, had cattle blocking a channel this July. Always interesting when you go out.
