Still February In Northern Wisconsin.

Last weekend I took a trip to northern Wisconsin and couldn’t believe how well the ice is still holding up. It felt so much like February out there. Trucks in the ice deep snow and feet of ice, but we did find plenty of willing fish and to spite the cold and wind we had a good time. I guess if I want to ice fish opening weekend it won’t be a problem the way it looks.

It’s going to look a lot different this weekend. I’m going to watch the big storm from my lazyboy.

Bryan, you didn’t have to go that far north–there is still 30 inches of hard ice on Marshmiller…just sayin’…

Yep Mike, finally had time to check the ice yesterday and you could finally get around some and I am seeing guys back on the usual spots again. But with the rain two nights ago and there’s 3″ – 4″ of water on the ice, so rubber boots (Or something to keep water out) are probably the better choice to fish in. Then we’ll see how the snowmageddon (calling for 8″ – 12″ +) works out…

With my turkey tag for next weekend, I am wishing my tag was in Merrill right now, but I am hearing about some really warm temps later next week, so we’ll see…

They changed the snow track Mark 10 to 16 here Saturday night and 40 mph winds. Looks like you should go north to hunt. The local flock in my yard the tom has been strutting since Tuesday.
