Step 1 in acquiring a new boat

Well, in order to get serious about a new boat I had to find a home for my old boat in order to have some working capital. Turns out that I didn’t even have to list it. I mentioned to a couple of friends that I was going to sell and both were interested. Frank came up with the cash first so he is the new owner of my boat. All the memories are starting to flood my mind. Time to start some new memories in a new boat. Hope to still get to see her from time to time.

Step one would be deciding what boat you want to buy that fits in your budget. So what are you going to get?

Your old boat would make a great Lake Michigan Salmon fishing machine. I have a feeling your new one would too. Good luck with boat shopping! I assume you’re going with another lead sled?……

I’ve changed my mind 3 times already. Damn the fact that there is no perfect boat. Deciding on what to compromise is killing me.

There are such things as the perfect job, the perfect wife, the perfect kids, etc…..

…..But there is no such thing as the perfect boat jester

You should probably get a 27′ Alaskan…..not perfect, but it might be alright )

they say the best day of a boat owner is the day they buy it and the day they sell it. thats the most BS line I have ever heard. I almost cried when I sold my last boat and my best days are when Im in my boat! I get nervous buying boats because I have to take the word of the previous owner(s). been lucky so far with only a few small things to fix. good luck!

Congratualtions! Always good to see boats on the water that we used to own. About a year ago I saw the first River ready boat that I ever owned listed on Craigslist. I called just to inquire, it had changed hands at least twice since I owned her. 1987 Tracker Tournement V-17 with 80HP Merc. The seller stated it still runs like a top and to his knowledge had never required much work. I enjoyed hearing that. New boats are a fun adventure too.

Crying over selling my old boat and crapping my pants over buying a new one. That’s it, I’m a baby again.

I didn’t sleep much last night and did a lot more internet boat surfing. I found this sexy thing.

What are you looking for different than your existing boat?

Wider and more dance floor space in the rear of the boat, solid welded frame roof so that I can trailer with the roof up and not have to fuss with putting it up and down every trip.

Nice looking North River, but I would not want a black sun top.

Are you heading up to the Pacific Northwest on a boat tour?

Long story short, this guy in Portland, OR is the only guy that returned emails and phone messages.

I’m not big on the idea of a black top either but to order something different would mean a 2021 and a steep price increase. I am banking on the fact that if I don’t like it, canvas replacement would be a lot cheaper option.

Dave- It looks like Boat Country in Escalon, CA has some nice Hewe’s and NR’s in stock. That’s close to where I used to live in CA, so I check their site often. How long of a boat are you looking for? The one’s with brackets are sure nice to get some extra room in the dance floor! A 22-24 ft hard top is in my future for great lakes trolling.

You guys will have to explain that one to me.

It’s a Saturday Night Live skit with Justin Timberlake. Richard in a box, but the short form of Richard.

Okay gents, the deal has been done. 21’ North River Seahawk. Motors will be a 200 HP Honda and a 9.9 HP Honda Kicker motor. Lots and lots of accessories to buy to outfit it now.

    Sweet.

But you’ll be missing out on all the Midwest walleye boat carpet and plywood…

What are you talking about? I’m fishing out of an Alumacraft these days.

Now that the keel strip was redone to stop leaks, the floor was replaced, and the wiring reworked to get rid of the undersized wire and a dead short that I could never track down, it’s a terrific boat. Hopefully, the wood-core transom doesn’t give out anytime soon, it’s garage kept so it should be ok for a few years.

Beautiful boat, I have been looking at those for years and drooling. Some day I’ll step up and get one. I’d like to check yours out some time if we are ever fishing in the same area.
